This provision is good

 The childminder observes what children can do and uses her knowledge of children's interests to plan a good range of activities that support children's development. Children make good progress.  The childminder forms warm, secure and close relationships with children. Children are cooperative and are happy to learn and explore. This supports their emotional well- being effectively.  Children behave well. The childminder recognises their achievements and children confidently join in the activities and use good manners. Children display good levels of confidence.  The childminder develops effective partnerships with parents. They work together to meet each child's care and learning needs.  The childminder provides a welcoming environment where children play and learn. She plans a broad range of activities linked to children's learning priorities. Children are well engaged, motivated and eager to learn.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not make the most of all opportunities to extend children's communication and language skills.  The childminder does not always seek detailed views from parents about her provision, as part of her self-evaluation to improve outcomes for children even further.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 maximise opportunities for children to extend their communication and language skills even further  enhance self-evaluation to include more detailed views of parents, to focus more precisely on promoting the best possible outcomes for children.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and the impact of teaching on children's learning indoors and outdoors.  The inspector looked at a sample of records and discussed planning, children's assessments and their welfare with the childminder.  The inspector checked the childminder's training and qualifications.  The inspector discussed self-evaluation with the childminder.  The inspector took account of the views of parents, provided in their written feedback to the childminder.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder implements thorough safeguarding procedures and understands how to protect children's welfare. She has a good understanding of the early years requirements. The childminder reflects on her practice and is committed to improvement. She monitors and tracks children's learning precisely, and she makes changes to engage parents further in their children's day and learning. For example, parents share children's 'wow' moments and interests from home. This contributes positively to children's good progress. The childminder uses training effectively to improve outcomes for children. She has introduced more mark making opportunities, indoors and outdoors, to motivate boys to develop skills in preparation for early writing.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder interacts frequently with the children and this helps them to learn. For example, she encourages children to count, recognise numbers, and to match animal lotto pieces with good support. Overall, children respond to the childminder's skilful interactions well. They confidently use language as they take the lead in their imaginative play. For example, they divide the play money into two bags and pretend they are going on a train journey. Children enjoy creative play, for example, they learn how to manipulate and squeeze the icing tube, and to spread this on their biscuit. They explore and investigate the sand. For example, they cover shapes they have drawn earlier on the tray base and recognise these. They confidently dig with the spade and use their hands well to feel the texture.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children demonstrate increasing independence in the activities, for example, they take their shoes off to play in the sand. They peel their bananas at snack time and pour their drink from the water container. They show a good awareness of potential hazards, through visits and use of effective safety equipment. For example, children visit the fire station, wear high-visibility jackets, and tell the childminder that the knife is sharp. Children participate in frequent exercise to support their health and well-being. For example, they use the outdoor equipment with confidence, visit parks, a music group, and places of interest to help them learn about the local community and wider world.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children learn a good range of skills to prepare them for the next stage in learning and move to school. Children are happy, settled and have a positive attitude to learning. They develop well socially and emotionally. Children engage in role play, make decisions, become familiar with numbers and develop early writing skills.
