This provision is good
The childminder has a clear understanding of how children learn and develop. She provides a good range of activities and experiences, and children are stimulated and motivated as they play. They make good progress from their initial starting points. The childminder is a good role model with clear expectations and boundaries for children's behaviour. Children develop their confidence, play cooperatively together and display kindness, respect and tolerance. The childminder regularly checks that her environment, resources and equipment are suitable for children to use. She reminds children to tidy toys away to help keep the areas safe, and allows them to take small, age-appropriate risks in the environment. Overall, partnerships with parents are strong. Parents regularly share children's development records and comment that they are very happy with the care and learning opportunities provided for their children. The childminder has successfully addressed all
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder occasionally answers questions that she has asked before allowing children time to think about their own answers and respond. The childminder is not proactive enough in using the views of parents as part of her self-evaluation to help her build further on her good practice and identify areas for further improvement.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector sampled a range of documents, including children's information, learning records, safeguarding, suitability procedures, qualifications and training certificates, self-evaluation, attendance registers and a selection of policies, and procedures. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector had a tour of the areas used for childminding and took account of the views of parents from written feedback.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of the procedure to follow should she be concerned about a child's welfare. Furthermore, she implements and shares comprehensive policies with parents so they can work together to keep children safe. The childminder is experienced and has high expectations for children's outcomes. For example, she monitors and tracks children's progress and provides swift support for any identified gaps in learning. The childminder is committed to developing her skills and improving the quality of teaching she provides. For example, she attends regular training and has developed good relationships with other childminders in the area, which enable her to discuss and share best practice. The childminder works closely with other settings to promote continuity of care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder completes regular observations and assessments of children's play. She uses this information efficiently to plan precisely for their individual needs. Overall, the childminder supports children's developing language and communication skills effectively. For example, they hold lively conversations as they engage in activities and the childminder introduces new vocabulary, such as 'polar' and 'wilderness'. Children engage in a good range of activities that help support their early writing skills. For example, children attempt to write their names and draw roads and traffic lights for their racing cars. Children show their enjoyment as they share their favourite books and are imaginative in their play. For example, they are animated as they talk to their favourite characters on the role-play telephone and use different tones of voice as they read to their friends.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children thrive in a nurturing and friendly environment. They show a sense of self-esteem and emotional well-being as the childminder praises their achievements. The childminder teaches children to become independent in ways that are appropriate for their age and level of development. For example, children follow good hygiene practices as they wash their hands at appropriate times. Children have healthy snacks and opportunities for physical exercise and fresh air every day. They gain a good knowledge and understanding of diversity through a range of activities, discussions and resources.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop key skills in readiness for starting school. They are confident and sociable, and persevere well with tasks, showing pride in what they accomplish. For example, they carefully blow bubbles and excitedly anticipate the success of each action. Children are learning key skills in mathematics. For example, they count, sort, recognise and draw shapes and talk about the different sizes of objects.
