Inspection activities

 The inspector viewed all areas in the property used for childminding.  The inspector observed activities and interactions between the childminder and children throughout the inspection.  The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection.  The inspector viewed documentation, including children's records, policies and procedures.  The inspector spoke with parents and children and took their views into account.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding

The childminder has a proactive attitude and an infectious enthusiasm for learning which is shared with the children. She analyses how best to improve and bridge any gaps in learning to ensure children's specific needs are met. For example, recent monitoring of different groups of children showed that some children needed extra support to catch up with their peers. The childminder took prompt action and the gaps in learning are swiftly closing. The childminder works extremely well with her co-childminder and assistant. She has effective systems in place to monitor their practice. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has rigorous procedures to ensure the suitability of assistants working with children. There are meticulous assessments in place which cover all aspects of care.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The childminder plans high quality activities which she links directly to children's interests and stages of development. She achieves an exemplary balance between guiding learning and allowing children to work things out independently. For example, children rub different textures on their skin to help them guess what a caterpillar feels like. Younger children become totally enthralled by this and contribute brilliantly to the discussion. Children have many opportunities to learn about the wider world. They celebrate different cultural festivals and visit farms. The childminder recognises that she can develop her outside area further to support children's emerging interest in the natural world.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder creates a nurturing and very exciting learning environment. There is a carefully tailored approach which enables children to settle quickly when coming into the setting. The childminder is an excellent role model, helping children to play exceptionally well together. Children are extremely confident with the daily routines and expectations, and the childminder uses highly effective methods to help them understand. For example, after children have finished decorating their art work, they all line up to wash their hands and tidy up their play areas. This helps them to understand how to manage minor risks within the learning environment.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

All children make exceptionally good progress from their starting points. Children's determination and perseverance to complete a task are exceptional. For example, they concentrate extremely well when putting the days of the week in the right order and counting to seven. Children are extremely well prepared for their next stage of learning. They communicate very well and acquire independence skills, such as putting on their own socks and shoes.
