This provision is good
Children's welfare is promoted well. The childminder has a range of policies, procedures and practices which help to keep children healthy, safe and secure. Children have valuable opportunities to develop their independence skills. They attend to their personal needs and are confident when making choices about what and where they would like to play. They enjoy energetic play and extend their physical skills. The childminder is eager to improve her professional knowledge and keeps up to date with childcare practices. For example, through her own evaluations, reading, research and making links with other providers. Children make good progress in their learning and development. They successfully develop their language skills in enjoyable ways. For example, children learn how to express themselves in their pretend play as they play with dolls. They are delighted to share experiences with the childminder, who responds with enthusiasm.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
At times, the childminder does not fully seize opportunities to extend the use of early mathematical language, for example during play, to develop most-able children's knowledge consistently. The childminder does not make the best use of opportunities to fully share information with parents about the children's learning priorities to further influence children's outcomes and progress at home.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children at play throughout the inspection, and assessed the quality of teaching and its impact on children's learning. The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at documentation, including the childminder's policies, and children's records. The inspector took account of the views of parents through their written comments made available during the inspection. The inspector discussed with the childminder her self-evaluation processes and plans for improvement.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has attended relevant training and knows the procedures to follow if she has any child protection concerns. The childminder makes children's safety her priority. For example, she supervises them well and ensures that all areas of the home are suitable for children to play. She completes risk assessments to reduce any potential hazards when taking children out on trips. The childminder has effective systems for evaluating her practice. She has a clear understanding of her strengths and the areas of practice that she wishes to improve. The childminder establishes partnerships with staff at the other settings that children attend, to promote consistency in children's care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gathers relevant information from parents at the start, to help her build on children's existing skills. She uses effective assessments to monitor how well they are doing. The childminder responds to children's needs and supports their learning well. For example, when children choose an activity, the childminder follows their interests and participates in their play to extend their learning. Children's language is developing well; they hold meaningful conversations with the childminder and their friends. Children enjoy books; they spend time sharing books with the childminder and listen to their chosen stories. Children go out on regular visits to local facilities to explore the wider world and take part in experiences to enhance their knowledge of other cultures and celebrations. Children develop many valuable skills which help them to gain experience for their future learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy within their environment. They have warm and trusting relationships with the childminder. The childminder manages children's behaviour well and she supports them to play cooperatively and sustain positive relationships. She praises children during their play to help them build their self-confidence. The childminder promotes children's good health. She provides them with healthy meals and encourages them to follow good hygiene procedures. The childminder encourages children to take carefully managed risks and helps them to understand how to keep safe. For example, children know that by tidying away toys they are reducing any tripping hazards.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are independent and follow their own interests to extend their learning. They make good progress from their starting points. Children become confident and capable speakers. They develop independence, for example, when choosing from a range of interesting activities. They are well prepared for their next stage of learning.
