She is vigilant in her supervision of children and she conducts effective safety risk assessments to identify potential hazards. The childminder has made a positive start to her childminding business. She is proactive and develops her ongoing professional development well. She evaluates her practice effectively to identify further improvements to ensure she provides a good-quality provision for children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder promotes children's learning and development well and she uses good teaching skills to support and extend children's learning through their play. For example, she reinforces children's language development by introducing and repeating words, singing songs and looking at books with children. She promotes children's understanding of mathematics, such as encouraging them to count objects and identify colours. She extends their learning, for example, by encouraging them to match the colours of the plates, cups and utensils they use. Children have regular opportunities to engage in physical activities as they take part in daily outings to the local park and children's centre, where they like having access to larger, more robust equipment.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder promotes children's understanding of healthy living well. She provides children with healthy meals and snacks. She reinforces daily hygiene practices, such as regular handwashing before children sit to eat their meals. The childminder is proactive in reinforcing children's understanding of differences found in others. For example, children can hear and use their home languages in their play and conversations.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress and acquire the important skills they need for the next stage in their learning, including their move to school. Their early number and language skills develop well. Children develop good levels of understanding about healthy living and eating. They manage their own care needs well.
