This provision is good
The manager makes good use of her long experience in childcare to successfully motivate staff. They are committed to their work and are generally well organised. The manager prioritises safeguarding. She ensures that staff attend regular training and that parents are well informed about any safeguarding issues. Staff take great care to maintain records of children's learning. These files are attractive and clearly inform parents about children's progress. Staff and parents liaise closely to help children move on in their learning. Staff are particularly effective in using different teaching approaches. For example, using music, song and rhyme to help children develop good communication skills. They learn to sing in different languages and children become aware of different cultures. Children are well behaved. They are aware of their boundaries and respond positively to adults' instructions and requests. They enjoy a relaxed atmosphere. They make their

It is not yet outstanding because:
Staff do not yet use checks on children's progress to help plan more successfully for what they need to learn next. Staff do not always plan effectively enough for those children who prefer to learn outdoors.

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children taking part in a range of activities. The inspector spoke with the manager, members of staff and parents. The inspector looked at some of the pre-school's documentation.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The manager is fully aware of her responsibilities regarding statutory requirements. Safeguarding is effective. Staff are rigorous in their record keeping. They assess potential risks with care and in detail, for example, when using the local park. The manager involves staff, parents and children in regular self-evaluation of the provision. Staff have good opportunities to attend training in different aspects of early years childcare and education. This helps them to improve their teaching methods and to provide a wider variety of learning experiences for children. Parents are actively encouraged to be involved in the life of the pre-school. Staff have close links with the adjacent school to help ensure a smooth transfer.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Staff typically plan an interesting variety of activities for children. Staff support children well. For example, they offer assistance when needed and engage children in conversation. They take opportunities to extend children's learning while participating in activities, for example, by helping them to discover new things and link these to other experiences. Staff are knowledgeable about children's individual interests and needs. They help children gain useful skills for the future, especially in the areas of literacy and mathematics. Children have good opportunities to develop their physical skills. For example, they learn to move in different ways when taking part in races. Children also enjoy a wide range of creative activities in which they learn to express their own ideas.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Staff promote good relationships among children. They teach children to respect others, to take turns and to behave responsibly. Children learn about a wider world as they explore resources that reflect different cultures, for example, when using attractively dressed dolls in imaginative play. Staff provide a wide selection of healthy and nutritious foods for snacks. Children learn to be independent when having snacks; for instance, they serve themselves and use cutlery carefully. Children learn to care appropriately for special equipment, such as musical instruments. They enjoy being asked to make suggestions during music sessions, for instance, to suggest a different action. Children learn to keep themselves safe as they move around the building and outdoors.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning, given what they know when they start. Children with special educational needs and those learning to speak English as an additional language learn well. Children develop their early number, writing and reading skills effectively. Children are well prepared for their next stage of learning elsewhere.
