This provision is good
The childminder reflects on the training she completes well. She uses what she has learnt to develop her practice and improve outcomes for children. The childminder has strong relationships with other early years settings that children attend. They share children's learning and work together to help children progress and learn continuously. For example, children play with the same mathematical toy at pre- school and with the childminder. Children have a close relationship with the childminder, who is kind and caring. They feel safe and secure with her, and are confident to explore and investigate. The childminder supports children's developing mathematical knowledge effectively. For example, children enjoy activities that help them to identify numbers and count. Children make good progress and are well prepared for the next stage in their learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, the childminder interrupts children's play and distracts them briefly from their learning. At times, there are missed opportunities for children to learn about their own and other people's similarities and differences.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities indoors and outdoors. The inspector had discussions with the childminder. The inspector took account of the views of parents. The inspector and childminder completed a joint observation process together. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's records and safeguarding procedures.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has good procedures in place to help her keep children safe. She has an effective understanding of her role in safeguarding children and what to do if she has any concerns about their welfare. The views of parents and children are valued as part of the childminder's evaluation process. The childminder considers children's needs and involves them well when making improvement plans. For example, children have helped take photographs of the toys and resources to make a book to help support their independent choices. The childminder reviews children's development securely to help identify and close any gaps in their progress or in the learning experiences she provides. For example, she recently purchased more mathematical toys to develop children's learning in this area.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children are involved well in planning their activities and learning. For example, they think about and discuss the activities they want to take part in with the childminder. The childminder knows the children that she is caring for very well, such as what they like to do. She uses their interests to help children develop and learn. For example, the childminder provided different textured items for children to explore, following their interest in investigating different materials. An interest in trains resulted in a train journey, which children talk enthusiastically about. Children develop good communication and language skills. For example, the childminder asks questions that encourage children to think and respond. Parents are involved in their children's learning well. For example, they receive information that helps them to continue learning activities at home.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are beginning to learn how to share and take turns. The childminder provides clear explanations and guidance to help children learn about the behaviour expectations. Children develop good levels of self-esteem. They receive praise and their achievements are celebrated. Children learn about caring for the environment and develop their independence well. For example, they help prepare their lunch and know to dispose of any leftover food in the compost bin. Children spend time outdoors each day and learn about taking care of themselves. For instance, they learn about the importance of protecting themselves from the sun, such as by wearing hats and sun cream.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children develop skills for their future learning, including starting school. They are enthusiastic and keen learners. Children extend their skills during effective activities. For example, they make shopping lists and visit the shops to buy cooking ingredients. Children develop good literacy skills, such as learning to identify letters and their sounds.
