p.1
This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
Assessments are not yet rigorous enough. The childminder does not always accurately identify children's stage of development or where they most need support. The childminder has not fully established ways of sharing information with other providers that children attend. This means she does not have a good understanding of how to consistently meet their learning needs. The childminder has not evaluated her practice thoroughly enough to identify where improvements need to be made to raise the standards. The childminder does not regularly seek ongoing professional development opportunities to broaden her skills and further enhance outcomes for children.
p.1
It has the following strengths
The childminder is kind, caring and supportive. This helps children feel safe, confident and settled, supporting their emotional well-being. The childminder interacts reasonably well with children, asking questions and joining in with their play and learning. Partnerships with parents are well established. The childminder keeps parents informed of the activities the children have experienced through daily discussions. This helps promote continuity of children's care and learning. Parents are happy with the service provided.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To meet the requirements of the early years foundation stage the provider must:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector viewed the areas of the premises used for childminding. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including policies and procedures, risk assessments and the children's learning and assessment records. The inspector observed the interaction between the childminder and children during planned and child-led activities. The inspector took account of the written views of parents and those spoken to on the day of the inspection. The inspector looked at evidence of the childminder's suitability and qualifications. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
The childminder does not fully reflect on and evaluate her practice to help drive improvement forward. She does not access many training and development opportunities to further enhance her practice. The childminder develops strong relationships with parents and they discuss the children regularly. This contributes to promoting children's welfare and learning. Safeguarding arrangements are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection. She is aware of the procedures she must follow should she have concerns over the safety of a child. Risk assessments cover all aspects of the childminder's provision, including activities undertaken outside of the home.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
The childminder carries out some observations of children's progress but does not use these to effectively plan for their future learning or identify any emerging gaps in their development. Activities, sometimes, lack challenge. This means children are not sufficiently stimulated to make good progress in their learning. The childminder supports young children as she engages in their play. She models skills and adapts activities to support children's knowledge and understanding. For example, she demonstrates actions, such as scooping the flour out of the bag as children make salt dough. She introduces new tools and equipment to further support this. Children have fun scooping and stirring the ingredients and adding water and glitter. The childminder promotes mathematical understanding through encouraging counting.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
Children are happy and explore the environment with confidence. Some children attend other provisions. However, the childminder has not created strong partnerships with other providers to exchange information about children's next steps in learning and progress. Children go on outings regularly. This enables them to develop their social skills and become aware of differences between themselves and others. Children learn how to manage their own behaviour and to share and take turns. This supports their social development. Children have daily opportunities to play outdoors and enjoy their meals and snacks, helping them to learn the importance of eating a healthy, balanced diet. This supports their health and well-being.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Children are working within the range of development typical for their age. They are developing some of the basic skills to support their readiness for school. For example, they are developing confidence in their environment through routines and self-chosen play. Children's communication skills are promoted and they play cooperatively. They build positive relationships and treat each other with kindness and respect. Children are independent and enjoy the responsibility of carrying out small tasks, such as tidying the toys away before lunch. However, assessments and planning requires improvement, in order to best support children to make good or better progress.
