The childminder is committed to offering children the best early years experiences. He regularly evaluates the quality of his provision, taking into account the views of parents and children who attend. The childminder monitors children's progress. He identifies any gaps in children's learning and plans activities which help to ensure they make good progress. The childminder provides a wide range of stimulating learning experiences. He uses his knowledge of children's interests well, to motivate them in their learning. Children develop close and trusting bonds with the childminder. He is always on hand to offer praise and encouragement as children play. The childminder establishes effective communication with other settings children also attend. They work closely together, sharing information about interests and next steps in learning. This ensures continuity in children's care and learning.
p.1

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector and childminder jointly evaluated an activity provided. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. She looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self-evaluation and evidence of the suitability of adults residing within the family home. The inspector considered the views of parents in written form during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder can recognise the possible signs of abuse and knows who to contact should he have cause for concern about the welfare of a child. He undertakes regular checks of the environment and takes appropriate steps to ensure it remains safe for children. The childminder works very closely with his co-childminders. They observe each other as they work with children, making suggestions about how practice could be improved further. He also supervises the work of his assistant so children have a consistent service. The childminder has a range of effective policies and procedures that underpin his good practice. He uses a variety of professional development opportunities, to help improve his teaching and keep his knowledge and skills up to date.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children welcome the childminder into their play. He acts as a playful partner in their learning. The childminder is aware of children's next steps in learning. He, generally, recognises opportunities to extend children's knowledge and skills as they play. The childminder talks to children about what they are doing. He makes suggestions to enhance their play and learning further. Overall, the childminder supports children's communication skills well. He introduces and explains new and interesting words, such as extinguish, to describe what firefighters do to a fire. Children recognise, sort and match colours as they play. For example, they count plates and cups and match colours as they use a tea set. The childminder works closely with parents. He informs them of their child's progress on a regular basis and helps them to contribute to their child's learning at home. Parents share important information about things their child achieves at home.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy, confident and have settled well with the childminder. He is a good role model and has high expectations of what children can achieve. The childminder helps children to manage their behaviour positively through the use of praise. He effectively supports children to develop their independence skills and encourages them to do things for themselves, where possible. The childminder provides a range of exciting opportunities outdoors which children find highly engaging. Children practise their physical skills and enjoy gardening, observing birds and listening to stories in the story cabin. The childminder is aware of the importance of a healthy lifestyle and provides a range of healthy snacks.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are active, confident and curious learners. They make good progress from their starting points. Children recognise numbers, write and hear the letter sounds in words. This helps to prepare them for the next stage in their learning, including their eventual move to school.
