This provision is good
The childminder has made significant improvements since her last inspection and has made effective changes to her practice. She has made good use of training opportunities and sought advice from other professionals. She demonstrates a strong commitment and capacity to improve and develop her practice further. The childminder makes good use of assessments of children's progress and her knowledge of individual children to inform planning to support their good progress across the areas of learning and development. Parents are well informed and involved in their children's ongoing progress. Children are making good progress and are working within expected ranges of development for their age. They acquire good skills to support the move to pre-school and school. The childminder ensures settling-in arrangements are flexible to meet the needs of individual children and their families. Children settle quickly and establish strong

attachments with the childminder. The childminder gathers meaningful information from parents on entry about what their children already know and can do, to identify their starting points. She uses this information to plan promptly for children's next steps in learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder is not always alert to the spontaneous teaching opportunities arising during children's play to build on and extend their learning to the highest level.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

make the most of the spontaneous opportunities evolving from children's play and explorations to extend teaching and learning to the highest level.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint evaluation of practice with the childminder. The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation, children's learning journals and evidence of the suitability of other adults living in the childminder's home. The inspector took into account the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder fully understands her responsibilities to protect children from harm. She knows what to do should she have any concerns regarding a child's welfare. The childminder has established effective systems to gather the views of parents and children to help her to identify how to improve her practice further. She reflects regularly on children's progress to identify any gaps in her provision and in children's development. She has established an action plan to drive improvements and has successfully addressed the concerns raised at her last inspection. She shares a good range of policies and procedures with parents to ensure they understand the requirements of her practice. Parental feedback is very positive. They typically comment that they are happy with the flexibility she offers and the progress they believe their children make.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder knows the children in her care extremely well. She understands their interests and how they prefer to learn. She provides interesting activities which offer age- appropriate levels of challenge to support their growing curiosity in the world around them. Children know that the childminder's hens lay eggs and eagerly help her to collect them. They talk about cracking them open to cook and eat them. Children are eager to explore paint. They enjoy using their hands and fingers to make marks, enjoying the texture of the paint. The childminder teaches them how colours can change when they are mixed together. Children show determination to squeeze the paint out of tubes and bottles, strengthening their muscles to support early writing skills. The childminder talks to the children as they play, introducing new words to extend their developing vocabularies and support their understanding.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is kind, approachable and patient. She is a very good role model who calmly and consistently supports children to understand behavioural expectations. Children behave very well and are very well mannered. They show respect for the childminder and each other. Children demonstrate they feel safe and secure in the childminder's care. They seek her out to share their experiences with her. The childminder understands some children prefer to learn outside and ensures children have equal opportunities to access resources and activities inside and out. She promotes healthy lifestyles effectively. Parents provide a healthy selection of food. The childminder ensures there are daily opportunities for fresh air and more vigorous activities.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress in their learning and development given their starting points and capabilities. Children for whom English is an additional language are making very good progress in understanding and speaking English. Children are confident to explore and try new things for themselves. They are developing good levels of independence. Children are acquiring good skills and attitudes to support the next stage in their education, such as pre-school and school.
