This provision is good

 The childminder meets children's individual needs exceptionally well. She nurtures children in a home-from-home environment and they form excellent relationships with her and the other children.  The childminder uses her knowledge of how children learn to plan and create engaging and creative activities. She adapts these for children's different ages and abilities. All children make good progress from their starting points.  The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of how to safeguard children and protect their welfare. She is aware of the signs and symptoms that could cause a concern and knows how to respond if necessary.  The childminder uses very good communication skills to constantly engage children. Children develop good listening and speaking skills and use these well in their play.  The childminder offers exceptional outdoor activities, for example, during trips to local places of interest. This helps to provide children with excellent opportunities to explore

the world around them and to develop their physical skills.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always gather the most precise information from parents about their children's starting points to plan more effectively when they start in the setting.  The childminder does not always share detailed information about children's learning with other settings to help fully support them in their next steps.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 build on systems to work more closely with other settings to help children make better progress  develop the assessment systems to gain more precise information about children's starting points from parents, to plan more effectively when they start in the setting.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector and the childminder discussed the systems used to observe and record children's progress.  The inspector completed observations of the children engaged in activities with the childminder.  The inspector sampled some of the documents that the childminder uses to support her practice.  The inspector took into account the views of children and written feedback from parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps up to date with current legislation and has a clear understanding of the procedures to follow should she have any concerns regarding a child's welfare. She evaluates her practice effectively and takes into account the views of parents and children, which has contributed to her good standards. The childminder supports children's safety at all times, for example, she talks to them about their own safety and encourages them to move activities so that others can play safely.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder keeps parents well informed about their children's development and next steps for learning. She provides challenging and engaging activities for children indoors and outdoors. The childminder's assessment and planning are focused on children's interests and needs. She values children's ideas and follows their interests to engage them in play, for example, children create ocean scenes with a variety of imaginary resources. The childminder takes the time to listen to children during activities so that she can introduce new words and provide explanations that improve their learning. For example, she talks to children about textures during a creative sensory activity.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder skilfully uses her knowledge of the children to provide exactly the right level of support for each of them to achieve and succeed. Children are exceptionally well behaved and are able to concentrate well. They become fully engrossed in imaginative play for extensive periods of time. Children show extremely high levels of independence and self-esteem. They are given opportunities to help prepare their own lunch and make their own choices. The childminder sensitively helps children to resolve differences of opinion. She skilfully encourages them to reach a compromise when they no longer want to play the same game together.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make very good progress in their learning and development. They are well prepared for the next stages of their education. They gain useful skills through activities that extend their knowledge in literacy and mathematics. All children, including the youngest, are confident to independently access the wide variety of resources that the childminder provides.
