This provision is good
The childminder has made clear improvements since the last inspection. This includes monitoring children's learning more effectively and providing a broad variety of activities that support them to make good progress in all areas. The childminder supports young children's language and mathematical skills well. For example, she speaks clearly, introduces new words and encourages children's interest in numbers and counting. Children develop strong bonds with the childminder. They are happy, settled and confident. The childminder knows children well and successfully meets their individual needs. The childminder completes training, researches new information, and links with other professionals to help improve her practice further and keep up to date. Children are curious and eager to explore the good variety of stimulating resources and activities provided.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently gather information from parents about children's abilities when they first attend, or share precise details of their next steps, to support fully children's learning at home and in the setting. The childminder does not always organise play areas effectively to provide children with as much space as possible to move around easily and fully develop their play.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder and children engaged in activities. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including regulatory documentation, children's learning records, and policies and procedures. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The childminder took account of feedback provided by parents, verbally and in writing.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection issues and the procedures to follow if she has any concerns about their welfare. She supervises children effectively and takes action to minimise any risks to keep them safe. The childminder evaluates her practice well and makes effective improvements. For example, she made changes to her toy provision to focus more on children's current interests and their stage of development, helping to motivate them to explore and learn. The childminder works closely with parents to help children to settle well and agree arrangements for their care. She provides parents with clear details of children's activities and their ongoing progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder captivates children's interest with exciting resources. She supports young children well to investigate a very good variety of interesting objects and textures that encourage a range of skills. For example, they develop their physical skills as they squeeze, shake and handle different objects. With the childminder's help, they sort them according to colour, work out how to fit construction kits together, and begin to draw lines and shapes. The childminder regularly takes children on a wide variety of outings to extend their physical skills, teach them about the world around them and develop their social skills. For example, children learnt about Chinese New Year on a visit to a restaurant and about different animals when visiting a farm.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a calm and caring atmosphere. Children learn to share and play cooperatively with one another. Their behaviour is good. The childminder teaches children about staying safe, encouraging them to tidy the toys away to prevent a tripping hazard. Children learn about the importance of exercise and good hygiene as part of a healthy lifestyle. The childminder helps children to feel emotionally secure. For example, each child has their own photograph album with pictures of people and experiences that are important to them, to look at whenever they need reassurance.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children gain the key skills they need for future learning and eventually school. Young children confidently communicate through words and gestures, and interact well with others. Children learn to count, recognise numbers, and identify shapes, sizes and colours, for example, when using pastry cutters in the shape of numbers. They carefully pick up objects and post them in and out of containers, gaining good hand-to-eye coordination, which helps to prepare them well for early writing.
