This provision is good
The childminder knows children's individual needs well and plans activities that motivate children's play and learning. She uses effective teaching techniques to ensure that all children make good progress. The childminder places a strong focus on teaching children about the natural environment. Children benefit from a wide variety of experiences that build on their knowledge of the living world. Children develop secure and trusting relationships with the childminder who is attentive to their individual needs. The childminder uses self-evaluation to guide improvement well. She checks the quality of her setting regularly and gains the views of parents and children to help her develop the service she provides. Outcomes for children are good. The childminder improves her professional knowledge and uses the new skills she gains to improve the quality of care and learning opportunities for children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not fully established relationships with other settings that children attend, to share information about children's learning and help promote their progress. The childminder does not always enable children to make independent choices, in order to develop their interests.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector took account of parents' written views, provided on the day of the inspection. The inspector observed children engaged in a range of learning activities and observed the quality of teaching and the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector viewed the areas of the premises that the childminder uses with the children. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of the childminder, sampled children's records and safeguarding procedures, and discussed the self-evaluation process with the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder keeps her safeguarding knowledge and skills up to date. She knows what action she would take if she had concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder provides children with a safe and secure environment in which they can play and learn. She assesses her premises for potential hazards and takes steps to minimise these so that children can play in safety. The childminder makes good use of opportunities to develop her knowledge and practice. She uses what she learns to help improve outcomes for children. For example, developing her understanding of working with younger children has enhanced the care and teaching she provides for babies.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder joins in with children's play well and uses good opportunities to support their learning. She uses her regular observations and assessments of children's learning to plan for the next steps in their development. Monitoring is used effectively to review the progress that all children make and close any gaps in their learning. The childminder uses good teaching strategies to support all areas of children's learning. For example, she provides natural resources for babies to explore, to encourage them to build on their exploratory play. The childminder talks to children as they play and introduces new language well. Children respond positively to the childminder and remain engaged and focused on activities that she provides. The childminder uses her good relationships with parents to share information about children regularly and to promote children's learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder gains a good range of information about children's individual needs from parents when they first start, so that she can support children's routines well. The childminder is kind and caring, and supports children's emotional well-being effectively. Children settle quickly and demonstrate that they feel happy and secure in the childminder's care. The childminder encourages children to learn about positive behaviour. She praises children, acts a good role model and, from a young age, children share well, and help each other to learn about expected behaviour. Children learn how to develop their physical skills and how to keep themselves healthy, through regular routines. For instance, the childminder provides children with healthy meals and snacks, and children enjoy daily opportunities to play outside in the fresh air.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress from their starting points. Younger children are keen to explore and are motivated and engaged in activities. They are happy, confident and develop good social skills, as they learn how to play cooperatively. Children learn well and are well prepared for the next stages of their learning and education.
