This provision is good
Since her last inspection, the childminder has made many improvements to her provision. For example, she collates in-depth information when children first start to establish where they are in the learning. Children make good progress from their starting points. The childminder continues to develop and improve her knowledge. For example, she attends training and works closely with the early years advisors. The childminder is a positive role model for behaviour and offers meaningful praise and encouragement. Children behave well and develop good confidence and self-esteem. The provision is welcoming and the childminder makes good use of a wide range of resources and activities to support children's mathematical and communication skills. The childminder gives children a wide range of experiences that help to develop their understanding of cultures and communities beyond their own. The childminder encourages children to enjoy books. For example, they listen intently

as she reads stories with expression, which captures children's imaginations.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although she provides nutritious food, the childminder does not use all opportunities to help children to learn about the importance of a healthy diet. The childminder does not consistently reflect the next steps in children's learning as well as possible in her planning.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder's teaching and its impact on the children's learning. The inspector checked documents, including the childminder's background suitability checks and training certificates. The inspector sampled the childminder's planning documents, and discussed children's individual learning and development. The inspector held discussions with the childminder about her self-evaluation processes. The inspector sampled the childminder's policies and procedures, including those relating to safeguarding.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good understanding of her responsibility to keep children safe. She knows what to do if she is concerned about a child's well-being. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder carries out risk assessments on her home and all outings she takes with the children to ensure their safety. The childminder works well in partnership with other early years settings and with parents. She keeps parents well informed of their children's progress. The childminder keeps her knowledge up to date through training opportunities, communicating with the local children's centre and childminders' forums. The childminder uses the self-evaluation process effectively. She regularly assesses her setting and includes feedback and views from parents and children to improve the quality of her provision. The childminder ensures that the learning programme provides interesting and challenging experiences that help children to make good progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder supports children's learning effectively and monitors their progress well. For instance, she sits on the floor with the children to develop their understanding of communication and language. She responds sensitively to children as they speak, repeating the correct pronunciation of words. Children develop good early literacy skills. For example, the childminder encourages the children to predict and finish sentences as she reads a familiar story. She develops children's understanding of early mathematics and numbers effectively. For example, children confidently count the bricks as they build towers. The childminder extends this further as children play with dough, encouraging them to use mathematical language such as 'longer', 'shorter', 'fewer' and 'more'.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children receive sensitive and caring support to become confident in their self-care, such as feeding and toileting. Children wash their hands independently and learn about why they do so. The childminder teaches children to cross the road safely while going to and from school and to take care while climbing on the equipment in the park. Children enjoy daily opportunities to exercise outside. They regularly go out to local groups, parks and the market.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in all areas of their learning. They thoroughly enjoy their time with the childminder and particularly enjoy sharing time with her. Children are able to follow their own interests and are keen to 'have a go' at new experiences. They are motivated and interested in their learning. Children gain good early literacy, writing and mathematical skills and are well prepared for school.
