This provision is good
The childminder has good knowledge of how children develop. She offers them a wide range of interesting experiences to extend their learning. All children make good progress from their starting points. Children are well settled and have positive attachments to the childminder. They have developed good, warm relationships with her and with one another. The childminder knows the children well and is sensitive to their individual personalities, interests and needs. Children play happily and become confident in the childminder's care. They learn to share and take turns. Children display good manners, are respectful of others and behave well. The childminder sets a good example and provides clear guidance about her expectations for their behaviour. The childminder offers a wide range of suitable resources and activities. Children have good opportunities to follow their own interests and decide how they spend their time

with the childminder. The childminder values comments that parents and other professionals share when she evaluates the quality of her provision. She uses their feedback effectively to build on her good practice and to work on areas for further development.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder sometimes carries out simple daily tasks for children that they could manage themselves and so does not always promote their independence to the very best extent. The childminder does not always extend opportunities for children to broaden their awareness of their own background and that of others.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed children's play and learning during the inspection. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's developmental records, and the childminder's key policies and procedures. The inspector took account of children's and parents' views through discussions during the inspection, and by sampling written feedback comments. The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's training and of the suitability of people living on the premises.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is motivated to further improve her skills. She keeps her knowledge up to date through methods such as good partnerships with other professionals, reading literature and attending training. For example, recent training has heightened the childminder's knowledge of child protection issues, including her awareness of sudden changes in children's lives and behaviours. The childminder uses effective ways to review children's development and she shares this information well. For example, she communicates regularly with parents about children's learning needs and works effectively with other professionals and settings that the children attend. The childminder has successfully addressed previous weaknesses relating to self-evaluation. She now effectively uses her improvement plans to improve outcomes for children.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder interacts positively with children during their play activities. She uses demonstration and language to effectively support children's learning as they explore and investigate their environment. She encourages younger children to make marks using coloured chunky chalks on a large chalkboard which she has made. The children engage well in a painting activity. The childminder encourages children to mix the colours and predict what colour they will make. She compares lighter and darker shades of colours and sensitively engages children by asking them questions to maintain their interest. Children experiment with writing the letters in their name using paintbrushes and their fingers. During such times, the childminder supports their interests in matching and identifying shapes, pairs and numbers. All children explore their imagination. They play with dolls and tea sets as they engage in home-corner play alongside one another. They find the fairy

wings in the dressing-up box and excitedly run around pretending to fly and cast their spells.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a welcoming and safe environment. Children enjoy independently exploring their surroundings, where they learn to lead and make choices about their own play. The childminder creates opportunities for children to take appropriate risks and learn about their own safety, such as when learning to climb. The childminder gives the children time and space to explore their own feelings and emotions. Children enjoy fresh air and exercise every day along with nutritious meals and snacks. This helps to promote their good health.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their development and in some areas achieve above expected levels for their age. Children develop well in their communication and language skills through regular, positive interaction. These are key skills which help children to prepare for the next stage in their learning, such as school.
