This provision is good

 Since the last inspection, the childminder has greatly improved her teaching. She supports children's communication and language development particularly well and uses a variety of very effective strategies to help her. For example, she encourages children to name specific objects and repeat familiar words as they listen to stories.  The childminder takes children out daily to places of interest. These include visits to toddler groups to develop their social skills as they mix with other children, and to the park to develop their physical skills.  The childminder builds positive relationships with parents. She uses effective methods to involve them in their children's learning and keep them up to date with their children's progress.  Children make good progress in their learning. They enjoy participating in a wide range of activities linked to their individual needs and interests. The childminder actively

engages with children as they play and supports their learning successfully.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Young children do not have many opportunities to access and choose materials independently to develop their imaginations and creative skills further.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 provide more opportunities for young children to choose resources independently to support their creative development further.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder and discussed the findings.  The inspector completed observations of the childminder, her co-childminder and the children.  The inspector reviewed a sample of documentation, including self-evaluation documents and children's learning records.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times.  The inspector used parents' written feedback to gain their views about the provision.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder monitors and evaluates her provision effectively. She uses a continual professional development log to record her training and evaluate how she is using the information gained in her daily practice. For example, she ensures that she uses the learning gained from numerous courses and workshops to develop children's communication and language effectively. The childminder monitors the educational programmes well to ensure children make consistently good progress. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is clear about the procedures to follow should she have any concerns about a child's welfare. The environment is safe and well maintained. The childminder works closely with her co-childminder to meet children's individual needs, evaluate the provision and provide good quality care and education.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder interacts extremely well with the children to support their learning and development. She uses her secure knowledge of child development to help her complete observations and assessments, and effectively plan the next steps in children's learning. The childminder involves parents well to enable them to share information about their children's experiences at home to help with planning their progression. The childminder plans interesting outings in the community to enhance children's learning. For example, they go to the river to feed the ducks and learn more about the natural world.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children feel safe and secure. They build good relationships with the childminder, who clearly knows them well. Children learn about the importance of a healthy lifestyle and healthy foods. They benefit from freshly prepared nutritious snacks and meals, for instance. The childminder follows children's home routines well, enabling them to feel comfortable and eager to learn. Children behave well. They learn the childminder's behaviour boundaries and expectations from an early age. They respond well to her quiet and calm approach.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are keen to participate in the good range of activities tailored to their individual needs and interests. For example, they concentrate well as they complete different puzzles and confidently count as they build towers with different shapes. Children thoroughly enjoy listening to stories and are keen to point to the different animals in the pictures and talk about the sounds they make. Children learn the skills they need for the next stage in their learning and school.
