Inspection activities

The inspector completed an evaluation of an activity with the childminder. The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. She looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self-evaluation form and evidence of the suitability of adults living in the household. The inspector took account of the written views of parents.

p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is well qualified and has a good understanding of how young children learn and develop. Overall, she plans a wide range of interesting activities that helps to extend children's next steps in learning. She successfully supports younger children's physical skills and independence. For example, children develop their coordination skills and learn to feed themselves independently. The childminder plays alongside children and encourages them to persist with simple tasks. She discusses strategies with parents to help support children's next steps in learning at home. The childminder provides younger children with creative and sensory experiences. They explore the texture of pasta and fill containers to make musical instruments. Children's early mathematical skills are supported well through activities and routines.

They attend various playgroups in the local community and visit places of interest, such as going to the local farm to pick strawberries.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and develop confidence in their own abilities. They are supported to develop the key skills required for their next stage in learning and readiness for school. Children select books to read and make marks independently.
