The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder pays great attention to children's safety. She has created innovative solutions to provide outdoor privacy for children, such as providing a toileting tent. The childminder is more than confident how to report any concerns about children and is fully aware of the signs and symptoms of abuse. She successfully evaluates aspects of her practice, although she recognises the need to maintain her excellent knowledge of early years requirements. She has attended training events and shares outstanding practice with other childminders and the local children's centre. She skilfully shares information with parents. This includes gathering detailed facts from them to help identify what children know and can do before they start. The childminder provides ongoing updates about daily progress and how children can be supported further at home. Parents feel very well included and informed.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

This helps develop high levels of independence. The childminder expertly teaches children their basic early writing, reading and number skills. She observes children while playing and makes excellent use of what she knows about individual abilities to specifically plan further learning experiences for them. For example, she encourages children to understand their emotions when they point to pictures that help them express how they feel.

Children regularly attend group activities, including outdoor environmentally based learning skills. This helps them to develop excellent confidence in social situations and to gain a wider understanding of the local community. They develop an excellent understanding of staying safe and behave extremely well. Children are affectionate and friendly; for instance, older children are gentle and kind towards their younger friends.

p.3

Children make excellent progress. Their early reading, number and writing skills develop rapidly so they are extremely well prepared for their next steps in learning and move on to school. Children are very happy and content. They eagerly play together and share very willingly, reflecting their extremely positive attitude to activities and others.
