This provision is good

 The childminder is consistent in her approach to managing children's behaviour. She teaches children the importance of taking turns and sharing resources. Children behave well.  The childminder works closely with parents to help provide good continuity of care for children. For example, the childminder shares children's progress and next steps in learning with them. She helps parents to support children's learning and development at home.  The childminder works well on any recommendations raised at previous inspections. She reviews her practice and the quality of the activities that she provides, to help children progress well.  Children are happy and settled. They have good relationships with the childminder, who effectively helps to build their self-esteem and confidence in trying new activities.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always nurture children's curiosity in the environment around them; for example, in relation to plants and insects, to further develop their understanding of the world.  At times, the childminder does not provide younger children with everyday opportunities to explore different tools and materials, to encourage their creative skills.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 build on ways to encourage children's exploration of the environment around them, to further develop their understanding of the world  use all opportunities for younger children to use different materials and tools to fully encourage their creative skills.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children in the main play areas and the garden.  The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector sampled documents, including safeguarding information and children's files.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is fully aware of child protection policies and the procedures to follow if she has any concerns for children's welfare. She carries out detailed risk assessments to help her provide a safe learning environment for children. The childminder works closely with others to help her identify where she can improve her practice. She develops her knowledge and skills well, to help support children's different ways of learning. The childminder effectively identifies the types of activities that she can carry out with the children to help them progress well.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder makes good use of her knowledge of the children's next steps in learning and their interests. She uses this information to help her plan good-quality activities to enhance children's learning and development. The childminder tracks children's progress well, to identify and narrow any gaps in their learning. She works closely with the other settings children attend. For example, she finds out from staff and teachers at school what the children have been learning about. This helps her to extend older children's learning further. The childminder teaches children new skills. Children enjoy learning how to blow bubbles and how to use the toys and climbing equipment safety.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children have good opportunities to learn about healthy lifestyles. The childminder teaches children about healthy eating and why they need to drink plenty of water. She works closely with the parents who provide their children's meals, to make sure that children's lunches are healthy. Children develop good physical skills. For example, they confidently use the small climbing frame and slide. They learn how to move their bodies in different ways to get in and out of the ride-in cars.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are gaining the confidence to independently choose where they wish to learn. For example, they readily tell the childminder that they would like to play outside. They develop good levels of confidence ready for the next stages of their learning. Children develop good language abilities. They learn to say new words, for example, as they join in with activities and listen to the childminder as she explains what is happening during their play experiences.
