p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always provide enough opportunities for children to extend their awareness of other people's lives and traditions.  The childminder does not always take advantage of every opportunity to gain additional information from parents, in order to enhance their child's learning and support their progress further.

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder understands her role and responsibility to keep children safe. She knows the procedure to follow should she have any concerns about a child in her care. The childminder has made good progress in developing her planning, observation and assessments. This works well to track children's progress and meet their individual learning needs. The childminder effectively evaluates her provision and includes the views of parents and children. She is able to identify clear targets for improvement. The childminder is well qualified and experienced. She works closely with the local authority, other childminders and attends training to keep her skills and knowledge up to date. The childminder has developed good links with the local nursery and school to support children's continuity in care and learning. Parents say that they are impressed with the progress made and the levels of confidence of their children.

p.3

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children are enthusiastic learners who thoroughly enjoy their play. Older children are confident speakers who are very keen to show how they can count, recognise shapes, letters and some words. They write their names on their art work and use scissors competently. Older children engage in activities to promote their thinking skills as they work out how to complete a number puzzle to form a hopscotch game. Children use their creative skills very well while decorating drawings of their bodies. They pay great attention to detail as they use feathers, buttons and a range of stickers to create their elaborate designs. A strong focus is placed on promoting young children's speech and language skills. All children like to listen to stories and sing songs. Babies and younger children have the opportunity to explore their senses while playing with jelly. They use a good range of electronic toys that helps to promote their early technology skills. Older children talk about

what they enjoy at nursery school and what they like to play with their friends.

Children's personal, social and emotional development is strong. The childminder knows the children well and they are seen as unique individuals. They are treated equally and develop a good sense of belonging and emotional well-being in this welcoming and caring environment. The childminder promotes children's good health and physical development. Children talk about their healthy snacks and how their 'magic milk' makes their teeth and bones strong. They have daily opportunities to spend time outdoors. The childminder gives them plenty of encouragement and praise, and they receive stickers to support their self-esteem and achievements. Babies and younger children follow their routine from home. This helps them to settle quickly in the childminder's care and feel safe.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in relation to their starting points. They are independent, make choices about their play and have good self-help skills. Their good progress means they are well prepared for nursery or school. Older children listen and concentrate well. They demonstrate good skills in their literacy and mathematical development.
