This provision is good
The childminder completes regular observations and assessments of children's learning. Parents contribute to assessments from the very beginning and are well informed about their children's achievements and progress. All children make good progress. The relationship between children and their key person is strong. The childminder and her assistant are warm, caring and welcoming. They know each child very well. This helps them to effectively support children's emotional well-being and raise their confidence and self-esteem. The childminder and her assistant are wonderful role models and children's behaviour is excellent. Older and younger children play together exceptionally well. They all show high levels of respect and tolerance for each other as they play cooperatively. Children's understanding of healthy lifestyles and how to keep themselves safe is well supported. Children are offered a choice of healthy options at lunchtime. They

understand the reasons why their must wear sun protection and hats in hot weather and they engage in positive hygiene procedures. The childminder accurately evaluates her provision. She has high expectations and plans for future developments. Parents are consulted about the process and the views of children are successfully gathered and valued. For example, children have been involved in planning the redecoration of the playroom and make choices about what toys and resources to have in there.

It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, the childminder does not always consider how children of different ages can be fully involved when taking part in planned activities together. Opportunities for individual professional development have not been fully focused on raising the level of teaching to an outstanding level.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed two joint observations with the childminder and evaluated the teaching. The inspector held discussions with the childminder and her assistant. She looked at relevant documentation, such as risk assessments, policies and procedures and forms used for monitoring. The inspector looked at children's records, including a sample of accident and medication records and children's assessments. The inspector viewed evidence of the suitability of adults living on the premises and assistants employed by the childminder. The inspector spoke to a small sample of parents on the day, viewed written feedback and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder and her assistant have a secure understanding of the signs of abuse and reporting procedures. The childminder implements a number of policies, procedures and monitoring systems to help to keep children safe. For example, risk assessments before and during outings are robust. Children wear high-visibility jackets, regular headcount forms are completed and a piece of equipment is used for younger children to hold while walking. The childminder offers support to her assistant. She monitors the quality of observations and assessments and observes the quality of teaching. She offers regular support and feedback. Children's progress is closely monitored. The childminder uses additional funding well to support children's learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder and her assistant play alongside children and allow them to lead their own play. Children are encouraged to problem solve. For example, they ask the childminder for help to reach climbing bars in the garden and she encourages them to think of a solution. Children work together to safely build a platform to stand on and are excited about their achievement. Early literacy skills are promoted well. Pre-school children are encouraged to write their names on top of their artwork and have started to form recognisable letters. Speaking skills are well supported. The childminder and her assistant sensitively repeat words back to children to enable them to hear the correct pronunciation. Children enjoy playing number games. They are encouraged to count the number of spots on a card before finding the corresponding amount on another. A range of accessible resources is available to extend children's learning. For example, as children spot

aeroplanes in the sky, the childminder offers them binoculars to look through.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are taken on a wide range of exciting outings, where they have many opportunities to become physically active and learn about the world around them. Children also explore a range of cultural celebrations through planned activities. Children are happy and settled and parents comment that their children often do not want to leave. Partnerships with parents are excellent. A number of systems are in place to share information regarding care routines. The childminder is flexible in her approach, in order to meet the needs of all families. The childminder offers tailored support for parents to extend their child's learning at home. Partnerships with other settings that children attend are well established and information sharing helps to support their development.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are supported with their move on to school, both emotionally and through helping them to develop the key skills they will need. Children are well prepared for their next stage in learning, including those in receipt of funding. Children are confident, self- motivated and willing to try new things.
