This provision is inadequate

 The childminder has a limited understanding of safeguarding. She does not have up-to- date procedures and correct details of who to contact if she has concerns about a child. She has not notified Ofsted of changes to her household to enable suitability checks to be carried out.  The childminder does not maintain a valid first-aid qualification or a first--aid box with appropriate contents in it to treat injuries. This does not promote children's welfare.  The childminder does not record all required information about children, including their date of birth, home address and emergency contact details.  The childminder does not have a secure understanding of assessing children's progress, including completing a progress check for children aged two years. This limits her ability to identify gaps in children's learning and plan challenging activities to match their individual needs.  Self-evaluation is weak. The childminder's provision has deteriorated and she has not

p.3

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is inadequate

The childminder is in breach of several requirements which put children at risk. For example, her paediatric first-aid qualification has recently expired and her first-aid box is not suitably equipped. She does not record all required information about children, including their date of birth, home address and emergency contact details. She has not notified Ofsted of changes to her household to enable suitability checks to be carried out. Safeguarding is ineffective. Although generally the childminder can recognise if a child at risk of significant harm, she does not have correct information about where to seek help from should any child protection concerns arise. The childminder risk assesses her home to help children play in safety. She gains the views of parents to help her evaluate the effectiveness of the provision. However, she is unable to identify all weaknesses in her practice and the quality of the provision has deteriorated.

p.4

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is inadequate

The childminder's understanding of the learning and development requirements is not secure. She does not have an appropriate understanding of how to use the information from observations of children's progress to plan challenging activities. This was also an action at her last inspection. The childminder does not have a secure understanding of the requirement to carry out a progress check for children aged between two and three years. The childminder provides a suitable range of resources and stores these at appropriate levels so younger children can access them independently. She follows children's interests. For example, when they show an interest in drawing, she provides paper and crayons for them to make marks.

p.4

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are inadequate

Weaknesses in safeguarding compromise children's safety. The childminder forms secure emotional attachments with the children. She encourages positive behaviours and independence. For example, she discusses children's behaviour with them and supports them to make responsible decisions. The childminder supports children's physical well- being. For example, she provides healthy snacks and children walk to playgroups and local parks.

p.4

Outcomes for children are inadequate

Children's progress is not assured. The childminder has not improved her understanding of how to use the information from observations to plan for their next steps in learning. This limits her ability to help children reach the level of development of which they are capable. Children are given activities that are not appropriate for their age or stage of development. For example, a toddler is given a templated drawing of a popular character from a book to colour in but is not capable of doing so.
