This provision is good
Children are happy and settled. The childminder provides a welcoming and safe environment, where children build warm and trusting relationships. The childminder monitors children's development effectively, which helps her to identify and address gaps in their learning quickly. Children make good progress. Children enjoy a broad range of learning experiences. The childminder provides a variety of activities according to children's interests and learning priorities. The childminder establishes effective partnerships with parents, which help her to meet individual needs well. Parents say that their children are happy to attend and that they receive regular communication about their children's progress. The childminder reflects on her provision regularly to help her to continue to improve her practice and the outcomes for children. For example, she monitors how children use the play equipment and makes changes according to her observations. She has

recently developed the garden area to extend children's choices and enable them to lead their own play.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not make the most of opportunities for children to hear and explore the names of shapes, during play and routine activities. Younger children do not always have the opportunity to explore a wide range of objects and materials independently, to help develop their understanding of the world further.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector observed children's activities in the childminder's home. The inspector talked to the childminder about children's activities and progress. The inspector looked at a sample of documents, which included the safeguarding policy, risk assessments and children's progress records. The inspector took account of parents' views, obtained in person and from letters they had written.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection issues and the procedures to follow if she has concerns about a child. She continually assesses risks to help her keep children safe and teaches children about staying safe. For example, children learn safe routines for crossing roads and about how to behave if there is an emergency in the home. The childminder has successfully addressed the action and recommendations set at the last inspection, which has improved assessment and aspects of children's learning. She uses various methods to keep her knowledge of early years practice up to date. For example, she has attended training to develop her understanding of how to support children's language development and encourage their healthy eating.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn, such as through play and meaningful experiences. For example, children take part in cooking activities, where they weigh, measure and mix ingredients. The childminder involves them in shopping and choosing things to include in the recipes. The childminder provides a stimulating environment with a good range of play equipment. Children make independent choices according to their interests. Children enjoyed playing with pretend kitchen utensils; they experimented with sounds, sorted items, recognised colours and learnt about numbers. The childminder encourages children's language skills well. She talks to children purposefully as she joins in their activities, speaking clearly, as she names objects and describes what they are doing.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder seeks detailed information from parents to help her to make children feel secure. Children behave well. The childminder helps children to learn to respect others, such as taking turns and sharing toys. She praises children regularly, helping to boost their self-esteem and confidence. The childminder encourages healthy lifestyles well. For example, she enables children to make choices from nutritious meals and provides opportunities for them to have fresh air and exercise every day.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress. They develop skills that help them prepare well for the next stage of their learning and for starting school. For example, children are confident to relate to other people and make their needs known. They develop independence in making choices, and in practical skills, such as hand washing and preparing food. Children start to understand that print has meaning, for instance, as they notice words on storage labels. They use recipes and follow instructions, developing early reading skills.
