This provision is good
The childminder provides a range of resources and activities for children to enjoy. Children are motivated to learn and make good progress. The childminder is warm and caring and knows the children well. Children build positive relationships with the childminder and each other. The childminder helps children to behave well. For example, she gives children notice of any changes in routine and teaches children the rules of the setting. The childminder monitors children's progress effectively to identify and plan for their next steps in learning. She shares this with parents and other settings that children attend to help provide consistency of care and learning. The childminder uses the local community effectively to extend children's learning. For example, they visit the library, local museums, farms and parks. The childminder involves children and parents in the evaluation of the setting. She

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder and children playing together. The inspector accompanied the childminder and children on the walk to nursery. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at convenient times during the inspection. The inspector looked at a sample of paperwork including children's records, and evidence of the childminder's suitability checks and qualifications. The inspector considered written and verbal feedback from parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has developed her practice since her last inspection and has met previous actions and recommendations. She has worked with the local authority to identify her strengths and weaknesses and has improved her observation and assessment of children's progress. The childminder keeps up to date with new knowledge. For example, she belongs to local childminding forums and meets with other childminders to share ideas. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is familiar with new legislation and understands her responsibility to protect children. She knows the process to follow if she has concerns about the welfare of children and families.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children enjoy their time at the setting and concentrate well with activities. For example, they play with water outside, exploring the bubbles and using cups and bowls to scoop and pour. Indoors, the childminder supports children when they choose to play with animals and cars. She provides new words, such as 'exhaust', and praises children when they remember the 'boot' of the car. She extends their communication further by asking questions about their cars at home, and children confidently respond about their trip to see car racing. The childminder skilfully uses the walk to nursery to extend their learning about the environment.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is very sensitive to the individual needs of the children and works closely with parents to settle children and to build links with home. For example, she finds out about their fear of insects and is sensitive to this when outside. The childminder builds children's self-esteem effectively. She offers consistent praise and respects their individual backgrounds. The childminder provides opportunities for children to stay healthy. They go on trips to the park and play regularly in the garden. The childminder helps children to stay safe. For example, she explains the need for sun cream and teaches them road safety on the journey to nursery. Safety is supported further during daily checks for any possible risks indoors and outdoors.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident within the setting and learn important skills for the future. For example, they learn to manage their own hygiene routines and to put on their own shoes and coats. Children are very alert to things in the environment. They name numbers on front doors and can identify the route they need to take to nursery. Children talk about people in the community and communicate well together during a game of 'what can we see, what can we hear'. Children make good progress and are prepared well for their next stage in learning.
