This provision is good
The childminder knows the children well and effectively plans and monitors their individual learning. Children make consistently good progress in all areas of learning. The childminder has a good understanding about how to promote the health and safety of the children. She reduces possible risks so that children are able to play safely. Children make choices about what to play with; they are very well-behaved and learn to share and take turns. The childminder uses self-evaluation effectively to reflect on what is working well and what needs to improve. She seeks training opportunities to develop her skills, which shows her commitment to the continuous improvement of her service. Children benefit from the positive partnerships that exist between the childminder, their parents and other professionals involved in their lives. She shares information to support children's care and further complement their learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always share ideas with parents, to strengthen children's ongoing learning and development at home. The childminder does not make the best use of all opportunities to extend children's early writing and reading skills fully.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
take every opportunity to support parents fully in extending their children's learning at home place more emphasis on developing children's early literacy skills, to accelerate their progress even further.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities in the childminder's home and in the garden. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at children's records and planning, and discussed the childminder's policies and procedures. The inspector took account of the written views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is well organised and maintains all required documentation, which she uses well to underpin her good practice. Since the previous inspection, the childminder has successfully developed assessment procedures. She has also improved the educational programme for expressive arts and design and physical development, to successfully plan for children's next steps for learning. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of local child protection procedures. She regularly renews her professional knowledge to keep up to date with changes in legislation to safeguard children. Children learn about keeping safe; for example, they practise road safety and participate in emergency evacuation procedures.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder offers a well-balanced curriculum, which is flexible to accommodate children's individual interests. The childminder is a good role model to children and promotes effective ways of learning. She uses good teaching methods, such as effective questioning and making suggestions, to challenge children's thinking. The childminder promotes children's communication and language skills well. For example, she chats to children and encourages their exploration of sounds and letters. Children find out about the world they live in. For example, they learn about others' celebrations, observe living things and operate simple technology. Children respond to the world creatively and imaginatively. For example, they play musical instruments, paint and express their ideas in make-believe play.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder builds close relationships with children, so they develop a strong sense of belonging and trust. The childminder teaches good manners throughout the daily routine. She encourages children to be independent, and builds on their confidence and self- esteem. Children are happy and enthusiastic, and they have fun learning, indoors and outdoors. They develop good physical skills; for example, they learn to use hoops, crawl through the tunnel, climb and slide. Children have opportunities to widen their experiences; for example, they enjoy local outings and pre-school group activities.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make consistently good progress from their starting points. They are curious learners and they gain confidence to try new activities. Children develop good communication and social skills as they play, and effectively extend their mathematical skills. For example, they count confidently while they fill and empty a tractor-trailer with water, and name colours and shapes. Children acquire the knowledge and skills they need in readiness for school.
