This provision is good
The childminder creates a stimulating, very well resourced and accessible indoor learning environment. This helps children to make choices about what they would like to play with and develop independence. Children are working comfortably within the range of development typical for their age. The childminder effectively supports children's early speech and language and she uses lively dialogue. Children enjoy choosing favourite books and the childminder engages them with exciting storytelling and singing. Children are developing early friendships and developing an awareness of social skills, such as sharing and taking turns, through reminders and explanations from the childminder. The childminder has a strong commitment to her professional development and makes use of a very broad variety of information to keep up to date and review her practice. She is heavily involved in local initiatives and pilot schemes. She disseminates

information to others and feeds back to professional organisations. The childminder works closely with parents to meet children's individual care and learning needs. As part of this, there are effective communication systems.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not fully support younger children's learning as they lead their own play. This means that they sometimes lack engagement and lose interest and focus. The childminder does not exchange precise enough information about children's individual learning with the other settings they attend.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation, parents' and children's questionnaires, letters from parents, records of learning and evidence of the suitability of those living on the premises. The inspector spoke to a parent during the inspection and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder closely supervises children and demonstrates safe practices, for example, securing younger children not yet quite big enough to sit safely at the table on a booster seat. The childminder has a secure knowledge of child protection issues, keeping abreast of any changes. New parents receive high-quality information about the service. This continues through newsletters, daily verbal exchanges and a daily diary for younger children. Yearly questionnaires are distributed to children and parents, actively encouraging their views, which are very complimentary. The childminder makes very effective use of training, including gaining further professional qualifications. This has an overall positive impact on her provision.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder continually observes and assesses children's progress, using this information to informally plan for their interests and next steps in learning. This is reflected in records of learning that capture children's unique learning journey. Parents take these home each term and are encouraged to add their comments. Younger children engage well as they explore interesting natural media and materials in the large treasure basket. The childminder builds on children's learning well during this particular adult-led activity. She enthusiastically asks questions and incorporates mathematical concepts. She encourages children to squeeze the rubber tentacle ball with more force in order to make it flash. Children delight in their success and the praise they receive from the childminder. The oldest, most able children play imaginatively with small-world animals and enjoy learning about various life cycles. They use plastic creatures and laminated information
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder gathers important information from parents to help children settle and build secure attachments. Settling-in summaries are completed and shared with parents. Children confidently move around freely. The childminder passes on developmental information when children first start at nursery to support their initial transition. Children settle quickly after being collected from nursery, readily talking about their morning. Good handwashing routines and ample fresh air and exercise contribute to children's physical well-being. Children go on bus and train journeys and attend toddler groups, helping them develop further social skills. Children help to grow strawberries and mint, learning about where healthy foods come from. Mealtimes are relaxed, sociable occasions.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points and are acquiring key skills and a secure foundation for moving on to nursery or school. They lead their own play and display good levels of independence. Children are developing an early appreciation of difference, for instance, through resources and celebrating festivals. Younger children are learning to play cooperatively and the oldest, most able children are very sociable and well behaved. They are confident communicators who enjoy sharing conversations with adults.
