This provision is good

 The childminder has a secure understanding of child development and how to support children effectively to help them make good progress.  The childminder builds very strong relationships with children who feel safe and protected under her good guidance.  The childminder provides children with a stimulating play environment and regular experiences which help develop their life skills.  The proactive childminder is keen to improve and evaluates with other professionals to ensure her setting is continually evolving and benefitting the young children who come to her setting.

p.1

 Children do not always have enough opportunity to develop and extend their early number skills in their play and the daily routine.  The childminder does not always plan opportunities for children to access sensory activities in quiet surroundings, where there are no distractions.

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 develop and extend children's mathematical skills  extend children's learning opportunities within the home, particularly sensory activities.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children's play activities and the childminder's interactions with them.  The inspector undertook a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder about the children and looked at their learning records.  The inspector sampled some safeguarding and leadership documentation.  The inspector sampled written feedback from parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is fully aware of her duty to protect the children in her care by following correct procedures. She keeps her required training up to date, such as first aid, so she can deal with any emergency. She has a good understanding of the legal requirements and shows dedication and a strong commitment to the service she offers. For example, she completes online training, is part of a local authority quality improvement award and has developed children's learning records. She checks children's progress carefully to identify any gaps in their learning. The childminder forges strong relationships with parents who report positively about her setting and how successfully she meets children's needs.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has good teaching skills. She provides children with an attractive environment indoors and outdoors, with play resources and activities to challenge and motivate them. She interacts effectively with them, promoting their play ideas; she is tuned into their needs and understands how to teach them. For example, when they show and interest in hairdresser play, she talks about it clearly and role models what to do with the play resources and mirror. The childminder is careful to promote children's communication skills. For instance, she skilfully plays and interacts with them, and builds on children's knowledge and vocabulary. She encourages children to make independent choices, such as putting on their shoes and playing in the garden, to help develop their physical skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are well looked-after. They enjoy attentive care and cuddles, particularly when they feel anxious after seeing unfamiliar faces or feel tired. The childminder organises their daily routines to match those at home. Children swiftly go off to sleep after lunch which positively promotes growth and development. Children learn about healthy lifestyles. For example, through handmade play resources about healthy eating. They follow good hygiene practices, such as washing their hands before eating. Children behave well and are learning the boundaries of behaviour from the childminder's clear guidance. The childminder carefully ensures children can view their artwork in her home, giving them a keen sense of belonging.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children learn successfully from their play activities. They make good progress and achieve well. They are well prepared for the next stages of their life and education. For example, they use chalks to make marks on the patio in the garden and show care towards their friends. They undertake their own care needs. They enjoy the opportunities on offer and talk excitedly to the childminder during imaginative role play.
