This provision is good

 Children are happy and have a lovely time in the childminder's home. They share very secure relationships with the childminder and her co-childminder. They show high levels of confidence and self-esteem.  The childminder knows children well. Children participate in interesting activities, which reflect their unique interests and support their learning and development.  Children behave well and learn to share, take turns and respect differences in themselves and others.  The childminder demonstrates a commitment to making ongoing improvements to benefit children. She has addressed the action and recommendations made at the last inspection.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Children do not have many opportunities to investigate nature, to support their understanding of the world further.  The childminder does not use children's views and ideas as well as possible to inform her evaluation process, and target further areas for improvement.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide more opportunities for children to investigate the natural world to satisfy their curious nature  sharpen reflective practice to use children's views to evaluate the success of activities, to help raise outcomes for children to the highest level.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the childminder's interaction with children participating in activities, indoors and outdoors, and viewed areas of the premises that children use.  The inspector looked at documentation, including safeguarding procedures and children's development records.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection, including how she evaluates her service to make improvements.  The inspector took account of verbal and written feedback from parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder works well with her co-childminder and her occasional assistant. They share ideas and reflect on the service they provide to help make improvements. The childminder seeks parents' views and encourages them to share information regarding children's learning at home. Feedback from parents indicates they are very happy with the care their children receive. The childminder uses knowledge gained from training to improve her practice. For example, she has developed a secure understanding of how to support children's mathematical development. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of her role and about what to do if she has any concerns about children's welfare. The childminder recognises the importance of working in partnership with other professionals involved in children's care and learning, when the need arises.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The experienced childminder observes children during play and plans for the next steps in their learning. She supports and extends children's learning well. For example, she uses knowledge gained through professional development to provide exciting science experiments for children. Children become engrossed and motivated to learn. They explored and observed changes to soap when they added water and heated it in the microwave. The childminder talks to children about what they are doing to help extend their learning. For example, she asked useful questions and used mathematical language during the experiment.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children's emotional well-being is supported effectively. They are relaxed and at home in the childminder's care. Children are developing healthy lifestyles. They follow good hygiene routines. The childminder supports children's physical development well. For example, they have fun negotiating the obstacle course in the childminder's garden. Children have good opportunities to learn to stay safe. For instance, they know what to do when they hear the sound of the whistle during the fire drill.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Overall, all children make good progress in relation to their starting points. Children develop confidence and good social skills. They are eager to learn and engage well in activities. Children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning, including their move to school.
