This provision is good

 The childminder shows a strong commitment to improving her provision. Since the last inspection, she has worked closely with her development worker to improve her knowledge. She has fulfilled the actions and recommendations that were raised previously and improved the service she offers for children and families.  The childminder is knowledgeable about how children learn. Children make good progress in their development and are inspired to explore the wide range of interesting and age-appropriate experiences that the childminder provides. She extends the potential of these further through attentive, responsive support and good teaching.  The childminder builds warm, close attachments with children, giving them a strong sense of security. She takes time to get to know them and she spends good quality time supporting them in their activities.  The childminder builds strong relationships with parents and promotes a consistent

two-way flow of information to enable the joint supporting of children's individual needs.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Although the childminder has developed her assessment and planning processes, her implementation of these is not always responsive enough, in order to share the swift changes happening in very young children's development with their parents.  Self-evaluation procedures and processes to monitor the educational programmes and assessments of children's learning and development are not always sufficiently robust enough to identify and target all areas for improvement.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 increase the regularity of assessments of very young children's development, in order to more frequently outline next steps in their learning and share this with parents, to support children's rapid progress  enhance procedures for self-evaluation to further improve the rigorous monitoring of practice and extend processes to monitor the educational programmes, including the assessments of children's progress.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector viewed the areas used for childminding. She talked to the children and childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection, and observed a variety of activities.  The inspector looked at evidence of the suitability and qualifications of the childminder, as well as a selection of policies and procedures, including safeguarding. She discussed risk assessments and the childminder's self-evaluation process.  The inspector carried out a joint evaluation of an activity with the childminder. She discussed children's learning and development, sampled their records and looked at the planning documentation.  The inspector took account of the views of parents by reading a number of their comments on questionnaires obtained by the childminder.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is fully aware of her responsibilities to meet children's needs in the event of a child protection concern. Adults within the home are suitably vetted and children are supervised well at all times. The childminder does daily checks of her home. She ensures that play equipment is in good condition and appropriate for the ages of the children. The childminder has completed mandatory training to improve her knowledge and practice, and to help her keep children safe. She uses local groups for professional discussions and to share good practice with other childminders. Parents offer very positive feedback and acknowledge the good progress children have made.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder interacts thoughtfully and very successfully with children during their play and exploration. She knows children's interests and capabilities well. She acts as a very effective role model as she explores resources alongside children, inspiring their interest. Babies relish in exploring a range of stimulating sensory items that the childminder has carefully compiled in a treasure basket. They enjoy the textures and the unique qualities of the items. They kick their legs and arms excitedly as they enjoy the new experiences, readily touching, grabbing and mouthing the items. The childminder develops young children's communication and language skills effectively, getting down to their level. Babies watch and listen intently as the childminder clearly repeats names and key words. Babies show that they are beginning to recognise these. They babble trying to formulate the sound of the childminder's name as they say, 'Ro-ro'.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder exhibits a very caring and friendly nature towards children. They look to her for reassurance and seek her out when they are feeling hungry or tired. She intuitively reacts to their care needs, promoting a high level of well-being for them. The childminder closely supports very young children's developing mobility. She encourages their inquisitiveness and determination. She reassures them as they stretch for toys just out of reach. They balance and steady themselves effectively to successfully grasp and explore the items. The childminder makes good use of the local community to ensure that children have regular access to outdoor play and physical activity. Additionally, she utilises local groups to offer children the opportunity to meet other children and adults, and experience different activities and situations.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children are making consistently good progress in all areas of their development. Young children learn independence skills and show determination and positive attitudes towards learning and new experiences. They have strong relationships with the childminder. They are inquisitive and motivated in their play and sustain engagement and concentrate well on things that interest them. They are acquiring very suitable skills in readiness for the next stage of their learning and their eventual move on to school.
