For example, they share, listen to and respect each other's ideas.  Children have warm relationships with their peers and adults in the home. The childminder follows children's individual routines to help them settle well and feel secure.  Children play and learn in a safe and welcoming environment. The childminder shows great care and respect for children's needs, and values their opinions. assesses potential risks in the environment and supervises children effectively.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Sometimes, the childminder misses opportunities to help younger children to explore their ideas and imagination.  The childminder is not always consistent in providing opportunities for children to do achievable things for themselves, such as during daily tasks and hygiene routines.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 provide greater opportunities for younger children to explore their ideas and imagination, to support their creative development further  help children to develop further their independence and self-help skills in managing tasks for themselves during activities and daily routines.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors.  The inspector spoke to the childminder, her co-childminder, and interacted with children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector checked documents relating to the suitability checks and qualifications of the childminder, and sampled documentation, including safeguarding procedures and children's progress.  The inspector read written feedback from parents.  The inspector discussed with the childminder how she evaluates her provision and identifies areas for improvement.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder reflects on her practice to maintain the good quality provision she provides. She takes into account the views of her co-childminder and other professionals to target areas for improvement. The childminder has a positive attitude to extending her knowledge and skills further. For example, following training, she has used her improved knowledge of health and safety to benefit children and their families even more. She is keen to build on her good knowledge to support further younger children's all-round learning. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder works effectively with her co-childminder to ensure they have a consistent approach. She understands the child protection procedures well, such as how to refer concerns to relevant agencies.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder shares her observations with her co-childminder to provide continuity in children's learning. She provides a variety of interesting activities, such as mixing paints to form different colours. She is alert to adapting her teaching style accordingly. For example, she skilfully encouraged children to use paintbrushes when they did not want to have messy hands during the activity. The childminder speaks clearly and repeats words to help children develop their communication and language skills. The childminder works closely with parents. Parents report that they are 'really pleased with the service' that she provides and find the childminder and her co-childminder 'professional and lots of fun'.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are confident to ask for, and choose, toys and resources that challenge them. For example, they had fun exploring the boxes of small world toys and musical instruments. The childminder provides good quality praise to motivate children's play, such as 'It is a skill to make a tower. Well done'. The childminder and her co-childminder are consistent in managing children's behaviour. The childminder encourages children to show care and concern for younger children. This helps children to behave well. Children benefit from fresh air and exercise, for example, as they take part in outings. This, as well as eating healthily, helps to encourage children's good physical health.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children enjoy their play and spend their time purposefully. They are happy and comfortable. They take delight in listening to stories and singing familiar action songs. Children make good progress from their starting points and develop important skills for their future learning.
