Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector checked the outdoor area was suitable and safe. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder and discussed this with her. The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children throughout the inspection. She looked at relevant documentation, such as, the childminder's policies and procedures, self-evaluation and children's records. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of adults who live at the childminder's home. The inspector spoke to a parent and took into account their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder fully understands her roles and responsibilities to keep children safe. The childminder makes meaningful evaluations of her service. She has consulted with her local authority advisors and has updated relevant policies and procedures. Additionally, she makes good use of daily conversations with parents. She ensures their views about the quality of service she provides are considered. The childminder has addressed weaknesses raised at the previous inspection. She has refreshed her training and now has a good understanding of how to meet the learning and development requirements. The monitoring of educational programmes is good and the childminder plans effectively to meet the next steps in children's learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides lots of gentle commentary, makes good eye contact with children as they play and repeats familiar words. This helps to support children's developing communication and language, and personal, social and emotional skills. The childminder sings number songs and uses numbers as part of everyday routines. This helps to support children's early mathematical skills. The childminder effectively supports babies' physical development. For example, she encourages them to pull themselves up to stand and arranges equipment and resources to support them to sit independently. Overall, children are excited and eager to explore. The childminder completes daily diaries for each child and shares these with parents. This helps to keep them informed about their child's ongoing care and learning at the setting.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is attentive towards children's needs and children happily approach her for comfort and reassurance. Children behave well given their age and stage of development. They are developing good social skills and the confidence to do things for themselves. Settling-in sessions are flexible and used well. Generally, the childminder uses this time to get to know children and their families well. This enables her to follow routines and care practices, as discussed with parents. Children enjoy outings to the local toddler groups and nearby places of interest. These help children to build their confidence and social skills away from the childminder's home. The childminder helps children lead a healthy lifestyle. She works in partnership with parents to ensure children enjoy a variety of healthy and nutritious meals and snacks. The childminder also supports parents with weaning. She offers advice and keeps accurate feeding records. This helps parents feel
