This provision is good
The childminder uses her good knowledge of child development to provide interesting and educational activities which help to prepare children for the next stage in their learning. Children are happy, content and comfortable in their surroundings because they develop secure, emotional attachments with the childminder. The childminder has a good understanding of how to keep children safe and involves them in managing their own safety. For example, children enthusiastically help to tidy the toys away so they do not trip over them. The childminder provides a rich and stimulating learning environment. This helps to motivate children to learn, both indoors and outside. The children enjoy exploring and learning independently. Children are independent learners and have good opportunities to solve problems through consistent encouragement from the childminder. They have a good sense of accomplishment because the childminder celebrates their achievements when they

succeed. The childminder successfully reflects on her practice and demonstrates a clear capacity for further improvement to benefit the children in her care.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Although the childminder communicates very well with parents, she is not always successful in supporting parents to guide their child's development at home, to further support their learning.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

provide more opportunities to involve parents in children's development and learning, to further support children and strengthen partnerships with parents.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the children in both indoor and outdoor activities. The inspector sampled documentation, including policies and procedures, children's development records and planning. The inspector observed the childminder's practice and discussed a joint observation on children's play with the childminder. The inspector viewed the required documentation, including insurance and training certificates. The inspector took into account feedback from parents and the childminder's evaluation of her practice.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has completed relevant training to refresh her knowledge of the procedures that safeguard children. The childminder takes her role seriously, by ensuring children are safe and encouraging them to take responsibility too for example, by carrying chairs in a safe manner. The childminder is enthusiastic about her work and attends relevant training courses to improve her knowledge. These include information about child development. The childminder monitors children's development and provides exciting and unique opportunities for learning. For instance, children learn about taste, texture and the wider world as they make their own sushi and learn where it originates from. The childminder has established close professional relationships with parents and/or carers, sharing examples of their child's day via photographs. Parents are very happy with the care and teaching their children receive.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her knowledge of children's interests to provide exciting activities. Children chop banana and cheese and count the pieces. The childminder supports them to count in sequence and recognise shape and colour, which supports their mathematical development. They experiment with water, firstly freezing it into ice cubes and then watching them melt. Children make their own perfume using materials from the garden. This helps them to understand the world around them. Children play imaginatively together; the childminder encourages them to extend their play for sustained periods of time. She helps them to express their own thoughts and feelings. The childminder models correct pronunciation of words reinforcing children’s emerging language. The childminder uses information from observation and assessment to set appropriate challenges for the children. She checks on their progress which enables her to identify where additional
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder uses gentle encouragement to calmly help children resolve any conflict. Children listen carefully while she explains what is wrong. Children are becoming independent. They learn to put their own coats on by placing them on the floor upside down, popping their arms in and swinging them over their heads. Children enjoy trips to the park and also visits to the shops where they buy ingredients so they can bake cakes. The childminder promotes children's understanding of healthy foods, such as making their own Bolognese. She ensures that they value others by providing activities that look at different parts of the world, people and other cultures.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in all areas of learning. They are working comfortably within the range of development typical for their age. Children are confident, active learners who are motivated to explore and try things for themselves. They make their own choices in play, for example by indicating whether they would like to play inside or outside. The childminder effectively supports them to develop many of the skills they need for the next stage of their education.
