This provision is good
The childminder provides a good variety of interesting activities that children enjoy. Children are happy and secure, and they feel comfortable with the childminder. The childminder encourages the development of children's communication and language skills very well. For example, she reads books, and responds to and repeats what children say to consolidate their learning. This helps them to make good progress. Children behave well because they receive clear boundaries and realistic expectations. For example, they listen to the childminder's gentle reminders to think of younger children and to share toys and resources. This helps prepare children for their future learning. The partnership with parents is strong. For example, the childminder shares her policy and procedures with parents so they know what to expect. The childminder collects a good amount of information from parents to help her support children effectively.
p.1
This provision is good
The childminder supervises children well and teaches them to manage risks safely. For example, she reminds children to, 'Walk in the house,' and, 'Wait for your turn.'
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always organise the play areas effectively to encourage children to make choices in their play and explore their ideas. At times, the childminder misses opportunities to help children to practise their throwing, catching and jumping skills.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

review the organisation of resources and activities to make it easier for children to lead their own play, to build on their ideas and imaginations make full use of all opportunities to help children to gain control of large movements.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder's teaching and interaction with children during activities indoors. The inspector checked a range of documentation, including children's records and written policies. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times and interacted with children during the inspection. The inspector took into account written feedback from parents. The inspector discussed the childminder's self-evaluation process.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder reflects on her teaching practice to identify areas for development. She has addressed the previous action and recommendation at the last inspection successfully. For example, she reviewed the use of safety equipment, such as car seats for transporting children in her car, to ensure children's safety and well-being. The childminder is committed to her ongoing professional development. For example, she attended a course to improve her knowledge of how to manage children's behaviour even better and support their self-esteem. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder completes risk assessments on her premises, including outings, to help keep children safe. She knows how to refer child protection concerns to relevant agencies.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes children's learning and completes accurate assessments of their progress. She uses this information to plan challenging activities and broaden their experiences. For example, the childminder encouraged children to explore small-world animals, building on what they enjoyed. Children responded positively, laughing as they copied the sounds animals make. Children are highly motivated and engaged throughout activities. The childminder develops children's early mathematical skills, such as when they play games, sing songs and count different objects. The childminder works successfully with parents and other professionals to benefit children. For example, she sets aside a 'golden time' to talk about and share her observations with parents.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children's good health is supported well; for instance, they enjoy freshly home-made meals and follow well-established hygiene routines. The childminder is sensitive to children's needs and provides opportunities for them to rest when tired. Children enjoy outings to local parks and toddler groups for example, to support their physical and emotional development. The childminder is a good role model, talking to children with respect and helping them to understand about similarities and differences. Children show good levels of independence and maturity given their age. For example, they helped prepare fruits for snack time and cleared away toys after play.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children move around the home safely and set challenges for themselves. For example, children were delighted as they mixed and matched plastic pieces to create a model of a favourite character. They gain confidence and good levels of self-esteem. Overall, children learn a range of skills that prepare them well for their next stage of learning, and they make good progress from their starting points.
