This provision is good
The childminder knows children's interests and provides them with a variety of exciting activities to support their learning. All children make good progress from their starting points. Parents comment on the high level of support they receive and the range of opportunities children have to learn. They share that they feel informed and supported in helping their children learn at home. The childminder promotes good values, such as respecting the choices of others, good manners and sharing. She helps children build a sense of who they are and appreciate other people's differences and similarities. The childminder collects the views of parents and children to help self-evaluate the quality of her provision. She recognises her strengths and builds upon these to improve her practice further.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder misses opportunities to extend further children's understanding and use of mathematical language. Children do not always have enough experiences to extend further their interests to explore everyday technology and understanding of how things work.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further
increase opportunities for children to hear and use mathematical language to enhance their understanding and skills further create more opportunities for children to explore and investigate how things work, particularly to broaden their understanding of technology.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed children's play and learning during the inspection. The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's developmental records, the childminder's key policies and procedures, and self-evaluation. The inspector conducted a joint observation with the childminder and discussed findings. The inspector took account of children's and parents' views through discussions during the inspection, and by sampling questionnaires and written feedback comments.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is ambitious and makes good use of support available. For example, she makes links with her local childminding coordinator, reads relevant literature and attends training to keep her knowledge up to date. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure knowledge of child protection issues. For example, recent training has heightened her understanding of changes in children's behaviour and clarified how to follow correct procedures to report any welfare concerns. The childminder shares information with parents and, where appropriate, she seeks effective support from other professionals, to identify and address children's additional needs. Processes to monitor and develop the provision are accurate, and previous weaknesses from the last inspection have been addressed well. The childminder uses thorough assessments and improvement plans to monitor children's progress and to improve the quality of the provision.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder tailors planning to meet children's individual needs. She engages them well and encourages their cooperation in activities. The childminder supports them to share the resources and play together harmoniously. She promotes children's communication and language skills well. For example, the childminder makes good use of questioning to support their ideas while playing with dough, sings nursery rhymes and encourages their interest in books. The childminder provides effective opportunities for children to be physically active. For instance, she encourages dancing to music, and playing with the range of push and ride-along toys.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder builds affectionate and trusting relationships with children. She has high expectations for their behaviour and helps them to manage their feelings. The childminder promotes children's understanding of good health. For example, she works with parents to provide healthy meals and helps children make good food choices. The childminder makes provision for children to sleep when tired and provides opportunities for them to play actively. She encourages children to take responsibility for their own personal needs, including toileting skills. Children learn to take appropriate risks and manage their own personal safety, for example, when playing with apparatus in the park.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are keen learners and are becoming independent, such as in dressing themselves. They seek out opportunities to explore and investigate their environment. All children develop the necessary skills in preparation for their eventual move to school.
