p.1
This provision requires improvement. It is not yet good because:
The manager does not always organise or deploy staff effectively, in order to provide for individual children's needs. As a result, not all children are able to fully participate in learning opportunities within the nursery. The quality of teaching is variable throughout the nursery. Staff do not consistently use good teaching skills to promote children's learning and development. Staff do not always regularly or accurately assess children's progress. As a result, they do not have accurate information upon which they can plan for children's progress. Self-evaluation processes within the nursery are not well established. Consequently, the manager and staff are unable to effectively identify and target all weaknesses in the provision.
p.1
It has the following strengths
The nursery works in partnership with parents. Parents are encouraged to contribute towards the assessment of their children's learning. They are fully involved in assessing learning in the children's home language. Children enjoy their time at the nursery. They settle well and quickly develop friendships. The nursery provides healthy food options. Staff cater well for the specific dietary and cultural requirements of the children. Parents are very appreciative of the time and care taken by staff, to ensure that their children receive their individual dietary needs. Staff promote children's communication and language well. For example, they regularly engage children in conversations.

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
Due Date
improve the quality of self evaluation, in order to accurately identify and plan improvements to the quality of provision monitor the quality of record keeping, in order to provide consistency in the recording of children's progress in learning and development.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities indoors and outside. The inspector talked with staff at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability and qualifications of staff working in the nursery. The inspector took account of the views of staff, parents and children spoken to on the day. The inspector held a meeting with the manager/provider.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management requires improvement
Safeguarding is effective. The manager has robust recruitment and induction procedures in place to ensure that staff are suitable and qualified to work with children. All staff complete safeguarding training. They are aware of the procedure to follow should they have concerns about a child in their care. The manager and staff are passionate about promoting equality and diversity. They value the cultural diversity of the children in their care, and use children's and families' experiences to enrich the programme for learning. The manager does not always evaluate the provision accurately. As a result, actions to improve the quality of the provision are not sufficiently focused. The manager has established supervision procedures for staff, including regular observations of their teaching practice. However, the quality of teaching is variable and requires improvement because staff do not always focus on individual children's learning needs.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment requires improvement
Staff support the development of children's language and communication well, particularly for children for whom English is an additional language. Parents are encouraged to share their child's achievements in their home language. The quality of teaching is not consistently strong. Staff do not always take account of the learning and development needs of individual children, particularly when working with larger groups. The assessment of children's learning and development across the nursery is variable. Staff do not always use information from assessment to plan for the next steps in children's learning, particularly in literacy and mathematics.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare require improvement
Staff are not always deployed effectively to ensure all children's needs are met, particularly younger children and children with additional needs. For example, during snack time staff are unsure of their roles. The manager and staff work in partnership with parents to help children settle well. Children and families are warmly welcomed as they arrive at the nursery. Children have a key worker who shares children's progress and the next steps in their learning and development with parents. Good hygiene and healthy eating is promoted well by staff. Children's behaviour is generally good. The large outdoor area is used well to promote children's physical development. For example, children enjoy searching for dinosaurs. They run around enthusiastically in search of the dinosaurs, crawling into outdoor dens and climbing a tree.
p.3
Outcomes for children require improvement
Most children make reasonable progress in their learning from their starting points. They are working within the range of development expected for their age. However, not all children make the best progress that they can. Children develop some basic skills in readiness for the next stage of their learning and school. They develop good communication and language skills, confidence and positive attitudes towards learning.
