This provision is good

 The childminder successfully assesses children's development and plans for their next steps in learning. Children make good progress from their starting points.  Children behave well. They understand the childminder's expectations and demonstrate good manners. The childminder provides good support so that children understand the consequences of their actions and learn to manage their own behaviour.  The childminder has good partnerships with parents and other early years providers. She shares regular information to ensure consistent care and learning.  The childminder provides good support for children's personal, social and emotional development. She promotes an inclusive environment, where children develop positive relationships and take an active role in activities.  The childminder and her co-minder work well together. They use self-evaluation and quality assurance standards as an ongoing way to continue to improve outcomes for

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always ensure that the learning environment is calm before reading stories.  The childminder sometimes misses opportunities to help children expand their ideas and imagination in their role play.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 help children to listen and concentrate on stories without distraction  increase opportunities for children to develop their creativity in their imaginative role play.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and the quality of teaching indoors and outdoors.  The inspector took account of the childminder's self-evaluation and parents' survey, and spoke with parents.  The inspector checked safeguarding information and the safety of the premises.  The inspector spoke with the childminder and carried out a joint observation.  The inspector sampled documentation, including policies and procedures, children's development records and planning.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Following her last inspection, the childminder has been on training and sought good advice on how to make greater use of her observations. She tracks children's development effectively to identify learning gaps quickly and help children to catch up. The childminder provides good opportunities for children learning English as an additional language to continue to use their home language. For example, they use dual-language books and songs, and she displays words from their home languages. The childminder is confident in her knowledge of procedures she should follow, should have child be at risk of harm. She carries out good risk assessments and takes appropriate action to minimise accidents. Safeguarding is effective.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder observes children's interests and extends their learning. For example, she notices a young child putting strings of beads in and out of a pot and she provides a range of different containers. The childminder helps children to identify problems and ways to solve them. For example, when the hole in the watering can is too small for a pump, they use a tray instead. The childminder demonstrates how to use equipment and gives children plenty of time to practise for themselves. The children have great fun when the childminder joins in with their games. For example, they squeal with delight, playing hide and seek. She introduces words such as 'under' and 'over' and helps with children's counting.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder ensures children have a safe and healthy lifestyle. She supports their good hygiene practices well. For example, children blow their nose, dispose of the tissue and wash their hands. Children have plenty to drink and nutritious meals, which supports their awareness of healthy eating. Young children sleep safely in a cot room. The childminder uses a monitor and checks the sleeping children regularly. She meets their physical and emotional needs well, ensuring they have clean sheets and their special toy or dummy. She organises resources effectively with clear labelling so that children can make independent choices and lead their learning. For example, an older child uses a magnetic board to draw. They see the marks they make and learn how to remove them.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress from their starting points and are well-prepared for school. For example, they move around with confidence and make good progress in their physical development. They are strong communicators and have positive relationships and good social skills. Children persevere and are proud of their achievements. Children learn about the wider world and gain a positive attitude to people's differences.
