This provision is good

 The childminder has a well-resourced garden that she uses effectively to challenge children's physical skills, and to plant and grow vegetables, helping them learn about where food comes from.  The childminder has made good progress since her last inspection. Children's learning records are thorough and detailed, effectively supporting the childminder to plan well for the next stages in children's learning. Children make good progress in all areas of their learning.  The childminder shows a strong commitment to continual professional development. She has attended training and uses the information gained to help her support children well, especially in their communication and language development.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not effectively work with other early years settings children attend, to share information more consistently to better support children's needs.  The childminder does not always help children learn more about the importance of healthy practices and how these support their good health and well-being.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 strengthen the procedures for sharing information with other early years settings children attend, to enable a more consistent approach in supporting children's learning and development  help children learn more about the importance of healthy practices and how these support their good health and well-being.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder and discussed the findings.  The inspector completed observations of the childminder and the children.  The inspector reviewed a sample of documentation, including self-evaluation documents and children's learning records.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times.  The inspector spoke to parents and used their written feedback to gain their views about the provision.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder monitors and evaluates her provision effectively. She involves other early years professionals, parents and children to help her identify areas to improve. This has helped her to increase 'messy play' activities to develop children's communication and imagination. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has attended safeguarding training. She is clear on the procedures to follow should she have any concerns. The environment is safe and well maintained. Since the last inspection, the childminder has improved her practice to support children's welfare and her teaching. She effectively monitors the educational programmes to make sure that all children progress well. For example, she uses detailed tracking documents that plot their progress in all areas of learning. The childminder supports and monitors her assistant effectively. They attend training together and share practices to work consistently to meet children's needs.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder plans a wide range of activities linked to children's individual needs and interests. She takes the children on outings to provide them with different learning opportunities. The childminder uses every opportunity to extend children's learning. For example, as children investigate oats, rice and pasta, the childminder suggests adding water and they talk about how the textures change. The childminder works well with parents. She encourages them to share information about what their children learn at home, to help her plan activities that help children progress to the next stage in their learning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children feel safe and secure in the childminder's care. The childminder builds warm and trusting relationships that positively support children's confidence and self-esteem. Children enjoy healthy and nutritious food and receive good support to prepare their food. Children behave well. Older children show consideration to others. They notice when younger children make choices and help them. For example, when they notice that another does not have any play figures in their activity, they find some for them to play with in the playhouse. Children learn about the wider world through interesting activities linked to celebrations, such as Chinese New Year.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are keen to participate in the wide range of activities. They show high levels of concentration as they explore different materials, looking for and counting different coloured buttons. They confidently talk about what they are doing and are keen to share their ideas with the childminder. Children gain the skills they need for the next stage in their learning and are well prepared for school.
