Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and the childminder's interactions with children in the indoor environments. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector viewed a range of documentation, including children's assessments, policies and training certificates. The inspector viewed written feedback from parents to gain their views on the childminder and her provision.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder fully understands her responsibility to protect children from harm. The childminder's written policies underpin her knowledge, which she shares with parents so they are aware of her role. The childminder has recently attended safeguarding training and has a good understanding of current legislation and guidelines. The childminder uses training effectively to improve outcomes for children. She has previously attended training to support speech and language, which has had a positive impact on her teaching. For example, the childminder asks a good range of questions, allows children time to think and narrates effectively. The childminder monitors children's development well. She has a confident knowledge of their stage of development and how to develop their learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder allows children to take the lead during their play and demonstrates good quality teaching skills as she seamlessly provides extension and challenge through purposeful interaction. For example, as children explored a train track, the childminder asked children to count and recognise colours. Children enjoy being creative and the childminder provides a variety of resources which children are able to select independently. Children confidently used glue spreaders and developed physical skills as they selected items to create their pictures. Children talk confidently and the childminder extends their ideas well with further questioning and purposeful praise.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children behave well and have good relationships with the childminder. They enjoy being in her company. For example, they sit with the childminder and listen intently to stories. She reads enthusiastically and talks to children about what is happening in the pictures. Children play well alongside each other. The childminder plans games for children to play where they have to take turns and share. Children have a good knowledge of hygiene procedures and confidently wash their hands before eating and after using the toilet. Children have daily opportunities for outside play and regularly attend toddler groups that enable them to further develop their social skills.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are happy and eager to learn. They concentrate for long periods and are fully engaged in learning. For example, children work together to complete structures through which to post marbles, and demonstrate good problem-solving skills as they discuss the different options they could use. Children develop good mathematical skills and acquire a good understanding of numbers. They are learning a wide range of skills in preparation for their move to school.
