This provision is good
The childminder provides a well-resourced and interesting area for children to play and learn. For example, children thoroughly enjoy the choice of being able to play inside or outside and explore the good range of toys available. Children are settled and the childminder knows them well. He ensures that children receive good support to build good relationships. Children are happy and enjoy their time in his care. The childminder reviews the children's learning effectively and has a good understanding of their development. He supports them well to learn new skills. Children make good progress in their learning. Partnerships with parents are effective. The childminder works well with his co- childminder to ensure that parents are well-informed and kept up to date with their children's progress.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Specific learning information is not always shared with other settings that children attend, to help them make even better progress. The childminder has not fully considered further ways of evaluating his practice to help him further identify any improvements.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector held a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector observed the quality of teaching inside and outside, and assessed the impact of this on children's progress. The inspector spoke to parents and took their views into consideration. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector sampled documentation, such as policies and procedures, and training records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder fully understands procedures to follow if he has concerns about the welfare of a child. He keeps up to date with changes in legislation. For example, he attends training to help extend his knowledge of how to keep children safe. The childminder effectively takes action to minimise hazards. For instance, he completes daily checks in the house, garden and for outings. Parents comment that they are very happy with the service and the support their children receive.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes and assesses children as they play. He identifies next steps in their learning to help him plan activities and experiences to help children develop well. The childminder follows children's interests closely to ensure they remain engaged and motivated to learn. For example, children excitedly talk about seeing and hearing a helicopter in the sky. The childminder provides good support for children's emerging understanding of mathematical ideas during play. For example, he helps them to look at how tall they are and talks to them about the measurements. Children receive good support to develop their communication and language. For instance, the childminder helps children to explore and join in songs and visit the library.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder encourages children to explore their physical skills and challenge themselves. For example, they walk to the local park and enjoy going to collect their friends from nursery and school. The childminder uses these opportunities to help children understand how to keep themselves safe. For instance, they look for cars, talk about how to cross the road safely, and walk nicely with their friends. Children's creativity and achievements are valued and celebrated by the childminder. For example, the childminder supports children with positive praise and their artwork is displayed for all to see.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress in their learning and development. Children learn to be persistent and build confidence in their own abilities. For example, they learn to continue to try and work hard to find out how the puzzle pieces fit correctly. Children are kind and considerate of each other and behave well. For instance, they play well together and ask each other for help when they play games together. Older children enjoy the greater sense of responsibility in helping others. Children acquire the skills needed for the next stage of their education at pre-school or school.
