progress.  The childminder constantly reflects on her practice, which helps her to drive improvement and meet children's changing needs. She has addressed all actions and recommendations from her previous inspection.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Although the childminder has made contact with other settings children attend, she does not consistently share sufficient information to fully help her promote a continuous approach to children's learning.  The childminder does not give children enough opportunities to build further on their understanding of people in the wider world, beyond their immediate family.

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 enhance the two-way flow of information with other settings children attend to help promote a more consistent approach to children's learning and development  provide more opportunities for children to build on their knowledge and understanding of their similarity to and difference from people in the wider world, and to enhance their valuing of and respect for diversity.

She also looked at her self-evaluation documentation and her action plan.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder is committed to providing a good quality childcare service. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder recently completed safeguarding training, which has helped develop her understanding of safeguarding issues. She understands her responsibilities well and the procedures to follow should any concerns about a child arise. The childminder completes risk assessments and monitors children's security effectively. This helps her to promote children's safety and welfare. The childminder continually seeks further training, ideas and advice to keep her knowledge and skills up to date. This has a positive impact on the good quality care and education children receive. The childminder has formed good relationships with the local authority and outside agencies, such as the speech therapist. She uses these partnerships well to help promote all children's learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder is passionate about her role. She is skilled and knowledgeable and supports children's development effectively. She understands that children learn through play and provides a wide range of activities and experiences. Children thoroughly enjoy their time with the childminder. They learn to play independently as the childminder encourages them to develop their own ideas. Teaching is good. The childminder interacts with children positively and provides enjoyable and exciting activities that challenge and motivate children. For example, children showed curiosity as they explored how the lift went up and down on the toy garage. The childminder models very good communication skills. She is constantly talking to children and encouraging them to speak. She uses questions effectively, which helps children to think more and solve problems.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are valued and welcomed by the caring, friendly childminder. The childminder praises children often. This helps children to gain confidence and positive self-esteem and they behave extremely well. Through her calm and consistent approach, the childminder helps children understand what is expected of them. Children are learning to be kind and considerate. The childminder responds well to children's emotional needs and recognises when they need reassurance and comfort. She consistently encourages children to think about their own safety. For example, she helps them to identify potential hazards in the environment. For example, negotiating the steps in the garden and not touching the oven. The childminder provides frequent opportunities for physical exercise and helps children learn about foods that are good for them. She helps children with their move to pre-school or school effectively.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children are making good progress given their starting points. Children are gaining the skills they need in preparation for the next stage of their learning. They are beginning to listen and concentrate. They are learning how to put on and take off their coats and have a positive attitude to learning. They are beginning to try new things and are growing in confidence and learning independent skills. Children are beginning to learn good early literacy and mathematical skills.
