Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder's interactions as she played with the children. The inspector toured the premises and viewed the available resources. The inspector examined documents and records provided by the childminder and held discussions with her on safeguarding, her practice and self-evaluation. The inspector read comments from parents about the provision and considered their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an excellent understanding of the procedures she should follow if she has any concerns about a child's welfare. She is highly vigilant to any possible dangers and ensures she takes every precaution to keep children secure from harm. The childminder evaluates her practice extremely well to support the continued improvement of her excellent provision. For example, she identifies training opportunities to enhance her provision and keep abreast of any changes. The childminder involves parents very effectively. For example, she takes great interest in what children can do at home and uses this information exceptionally well to extend their learning and provide a wealth of exciting experiences.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
The childminder plans an exceptional range of activities to support children's learning and develop their curiosity extremely well. For example, children learn about different parts of the body from the model skeleton in the playroom, as they sing and act out rhymes and songs. Children have many opportunities to develop their early reading skills, count and recognise numbers. For example, they listen to stories, count dots and match letters to make words. The childminder supports children's developing literacy skills extremely well. For example, she skilfully encouraged them to sort through bottle tops with letters stuck on them, to match simple words. The childminder occasionally does not ensure that reading books are closely matched to all the different age groups, especially the youngest, to make the most of every learning opportunity.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder fosters excellent relationships with parents that help children to feel safe and secure. Children relate very positively with the childminder to form secure attachments. The childminder is an extremely positive role model. She talks calmly to the children about their behaviour to help them get along and share with each other. The childminder promotes children's physical well-being exceptionally well. For example, she has created a highly stimulating environment in the garden for children to discover nature as they observe the creatures they find in the bug hotel they created together.
p.3
Outcomes for children are outstanding
Children gain an excellent range of skills that prepare them exceptionally well for the next stage in their learning. They are extremely sociable and confident communicators. Children demonstrate increasing skills as they recognise letters and numbers, and count with increasing accuracy. They learn how to keep safe when playing outside and when walking out with the childminder. They flourish in this welcoming and secure environment.
