This provision is good
All children make good progress in their learning. They gain the social, emotional and physical skills they need to move on to the next stage of their development. The childminder monitors children's learning effectively from the start, to plan appropriate challenges in their play. She uses effective teaching strategies to help children learn as they play. The childminder works well in partnership with parents to provide children with good continuity of care and to help parents to support their children's learning at home. Children show lots of confidence and curiosity as they explore their surroundings. They show that they have close bonds with the childminder, who meets their emotional needs well.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not consistently encourage children to learn about sorting and categorising, to fully develop their mathematical abilities. The childminder does not give children a variety of opportunities to recognise and relate to the similarities and differences between people, to help them learn about diversity.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

provide children with even more opportunities to sort and categorise, to build on their mathematical understanding and skills develop children's understanding of the similarities and differences between people, to help them build a positive awareness of diversity.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with children during their daily play routines. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector took account of parents' written views. The inspector viewed a range of documentation, including policies, procedures and children's records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder regularly evaluates her provision and sets goals for further development. She seeks the opinions of parents and actively seeks out information and updates her knowledge to improve her skills. The childminder develops the quality of her teaching, to contribute towards continually improving outcomes for children. She asks parents for a range of information about their children's needs from the start and continues to share information about what she is planning to help them learn. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows what to do if she is concerned for children's safety and understands local child protection procedures. The childminder effectively identifies and minimises risks to children's safety.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder makes regular observations and accurate assessments of children's progress. She effectively plans activities to challenge their skills further. The childminder supports children's communication and language skills well. For example, as children play, she sings songs and repeats words in English as well as children's home languages. She makes sure that children have the time they need to respond during conversations. The childminder helps young children to develop their ability to concentrate and focus on activities that they choose for themselves. She acts as a positive role model and helps children to learn about keeping safe in different situations. For instance, she reminds them to sit down safely to eat.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides children with a good range of toys and resources to support their own play choices. Children develop good emotional and physical skills as they play. The childminder gives children plenty of praise when they achieve a task or need reassurance. They use pens and pencils to make marks and put cups on saucers when playing with the tea set. The childminder manages children's behaviour well. She helps children to acquire an awareness of healthy lifestyles and the benefits of regular physical exercise. Children enjoy outdoor play, including sand and water play, drawing and going on outings, including to the local park to use climbing equipment.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children handle tools effectively and develop good coordination. They seek out support for reassurance; for example, when they become tired and need a rest. Children join in with singing songs and repeating actions to familiar rhymes. They begin to learn how to manage tasks for themselves, such as washing their hands and feeding themselves independently.
