This provision is good
Children have good opportunities to develop their language skills. For example, they enjoy singing songs together with the childminder. Children are constantly building on their learning skills and make good progress from their starting points. Children receive effect support for their personal and emotional development. The childminder is considerate to their individual needs, which she meets successfully. Children show that they feel secure, confident and happy in her care. The childminder carefully reviews what she does and identifies areas to improve. She has a successful partnership with parents. For example, she keeps them informed about their children's daily experiences and progress in learning, which helps parents to participate in and broaden children's learning at home.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not use all occasions to inspire children to explore a broader range of reading materials to enhance their early reading skills. On occasions, the childminder over directs children's play, which slightly hinders them from making their own decisions or using their imagination fully.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further
continue to provide further opportunities and encouragement for children to explore early reading give children more time and space to make their own choices, particularly so they learn to express their ideas further and use their imagination.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector and the childminder discussed the systems used to observe and record children's progress, and the documents used to support the childminder's work. The inspector completed observations of the children engaged in activities with the childminder. The inspector looked at the rooms and resources used by the children. The inspector and the childminder discussed the childminder's systems of self- evaluation and the impact of training on her work. The inspector and the childminder discussed how the childminder met the actions and recommendations set at the last inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder understands her role in safeguarding children and knows what to do if she has any concerns about a child in her care. The childminder values her professional development. She attends courses and seeks support from other professionals to improve her knowledge and to enhance children's learning experiences. She evaluates the quality of her provision effectively and considers ways to improve her practice; she has met the actions and recommendations set at the last inspection. For example, she has made her garden safe and children have access to a broader range of resources. The childminder observes and monitors children's progress to identify any gaps in their development, and to plan activities that motivate them to learn and make good progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children have fun as they play and learn, and benefit from good-quality interaction. For example, when playing with dolls, the childminder helps them to identify parts of their body, and sings songs about 'our bodies' to make learning enjoyable and active. Children have some opportunities to lead their own play and make choices about their activities. For example, they choose from a range of creative resources, while talking about the colours they are using. Children have opportunities to learn about their own community and the lives of others. They visit local parks and community groups where they take part in activities, such as cooking for special events. The childminder appreciates children's achievements and offers high levels of praise, helping them to feel confident in their own abilities.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder is sensitive to the needs of the children and provides a calm environment for them to learn and play. Children are secure and confident in the childminder's home. She helps them to develop the necessary skills to help prepare them for the future. For example, children learn how to prepare fruit and make sandwiches for snack time. Children learn about healthy eating and the effects of this on achieving a healthy lifestyle. The childminder encourages children to take appropriate risks and to keep safe as they explore. For example, she encourages them to take one more step on the slide, going higher each time.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress and are self-assured. They develop useful skills for their eventual move to school. For example, they learn to use and order numbers, such as when counting steps as they walk or when hanging number cards in the garden.
