This provision is good

 The quality of teaching is good and children make good progress in all areas of their development. The childminder provides a wide range of play experiences and activities that interest children.  The childminder makes accurate assessments of children's development and uses the information effectively to plan for the next stage of their learning. Parents are included in required assessments and receive regular information about their children's progress.  Children learn to respect others, take account of each other's differences and celebrate their own achievements. They are well behaved and have a good level of self-esteem.  Children follow hygiene routines well and learn about the importance of maintaining their good health. For example, they enjoy a variety of nutritious meals, snacks and drinks.  The childminder has met the previous recommendation from her last inspection. She seeks regular feedback from parents and children to help identify any aspects of her

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always extend fully her partnerships with all early years settings that children attend, to strengthen further children's individual learning and development opportunities.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 build on current methods of communicating with other settings that children attend and use this information to promote continuity in children's learning, development and care.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times.  The inspector observed teaching and learning activities, and observed children interacting with the childminder.  The inspector looked at a sample of policies and procedures shared with parents, as well as required documentation and children's development records.  The inspector spoke to the childminder about her approach to self-evaluation and read written feedback from parents.  The inspector looked at areas of the childminder's home used for care purposes, and the range of play resources and equipment available for children.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of child protection procedures. She checks resources and her premises daily to ensure all areas are suitable. Children have a strong awareness of their own personal safety. For example, they partake regularly in evacuation procedures, such as fire drills. The childminder evaluates her service effectively to make improvements that benefit children and she regularly monitors their learning. For example, she checks children's progress to identify and address any gaps in learning or to provide additional challenge.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder understands how to support children's development and encourages them to be independent from a young age, such as in managing their care needs. The childminder makes effective use of information that she gathers from parents about children's individual needs, preferences and interests, to identify their next steps in learning. Children have a good awareness of different print. For example, they understand that pictures convey meaning, which they use well to guide them about changes in the daily routine. Children enjoy creative activities. For example, they spend long periods exploring natural resources, which they use for sticking activities, and they enjoy painting pictures for their parents. The childminder adapts activities skilfully to ensure all children benefit. For example, older children create letters of the alphabet, while younger children make shapes using their hands.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder quickly builds strong and trusting relationships with children and their parents. She regularly offers children drinking water and provides them with healthy and nutritious meals. Children independently select resources for play, and learn to take turns and share. They effectively develop an awareness of the needs of others. Children are confident while they explore their surroundings and often invite the childminder to join in with their play. They are physically active and have opportunities to explore the local community. For example, they enjoy going on daily visits to parks, adventure playgrounds and the farm.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children gain the necessary skills in preparation for school, from their starting points. For example, they learn to skilfully communicate with others, display high levels of independence and show a keen interest in early reading and writing.
