Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder prioritises children's safety. She has a good understanding of the procedures to follow should she be concerned about a child's welfare. The childminder helps to protect children from harm by, for instance, regularly checking all areas of her home to help prevent accidents. She has good policies and procedures to help keep children safe. She has a secure understanding of her responsibilities in relation to regulatory requirements. The childminder reflects on all areas of her practice and sets clear goals to build ongoing improvement. For example, following training, the childminder now uses props to encourage children's interest in stories and books. She monitors the work of her assistant effectively by, for instance, observing her practice, and provides feedback to enhance her skills and knowledge.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder supports children's early language skills well. She models sentences clearly and introduces children to new words. The childminder encourages children's understanding of the world effectively. For example, she teaches children the names of different minibeasts as they explore the garden. The childminder provides good ways for children to learn to count, sort and group objects to support their early mathematical development. She supports their personal development by, for instance, encouraging children to share and take turns as they play. The childminder supports children's creative development well, and she provides a wide range of tools and materials for children to create their own art.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder teaches children to behave in safe ways. For instance, children learn about the dangers of throwing soil and how to behave safely while crossing the road. She builds very warm, positive relationships with children, which helps them to settle well. The childminder builds children's confidence by, for example, valuing each child as an individual. Children are motivated to learn and concentrate well on tasks. The childminder encourages healthy lifestyles by offering nutritious meals and by taking children outdoors for fresh air and daily exercise.

p.3
