This provision is good
The childminder is highly committed to providing good-quality care and education. She provides children with a wide range of activities to help stimulate and motivate them to learn. Children make good progress from their initial starting points. The childminder is a good role model and offers gentle reminders of appropriate behaviour as children play. Children play cooperatively alongside each other, share and take turns. They demonstrate a clear understanding of tolerance and respect for others. The childminder has established good partnerships with parents. They are well informed about their children's progress and are supported to continue this learning at home. Parents comment positively about the care and learning their children receive. The childminder has worked hard to successfully address the recommendations raised during the previous inspection. She has raised the quality of the provision to a good

level, and regularly evaluates and reviews her teaching skills and children's outcomes.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Occasionally, children are not given enough time to respond to the childminder's enthusiastic questioning. The childminder does not make the most of all opportunities to extend children's emerging writing skills as they play.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during a range of activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector sampled a range of documents, including children's information and learning records, safeguarding and suitability procedures, qualifications and training certificates, self-evaluation, attendance registers, and a selection of policies and procedures. The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector took into account the views of parents from written feedback.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder knows what steps to take if she has any concerns about a child's welfare. She shows a high regard for the safety of the children in her care. For example, she teaches children how to keep themselves safe. The childminder keeps a close check on how well children are doing in their development. Any gaps in learning are identified and quickly reduced. The childminder is committed to raising children's outcomes and her professional development. For example, she attends regular training to continuously update her skills and meets with other childminders to share ideas that help enhance her practice. The childminder shares information with other settings children attend, to help provide a consistent approach to children's learning and care needs.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The experienced childminder demonstrates a good understanding of how children learn. She uses observation, assessment and planning systems effectively to help plan activities based on children's current interests. Overall, the childminder supports children's communication and language skills effectively. For example, children thoroughly enjoy discussing their impending holidays and the childminder introduces new words, such as 'exploration' and 'discovery'. Children's love for books is supported very well. For example, the childminder reads familiar stories with enthusiasm to them and children read to each other. The childminder provides good opportunities for children to develop their imaginative skills. For example, children pretend to go shopping, fly an aeroplane and become a member of the fire service as they put out fires with their fire trucks.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children form secure and caring attachments with the childminder, who offers frequent praise and encouragement as they play to help promote their well-being and self-esteem. The childminder provides children with healthy choices during mealtimes and encourages good hygiene practices. She takes these opportunities to develop children's awareness of how to lead a healthy lifestyle. Children have regular opportunities to extend their physical skills. They access fresh air on a daily basis and play in the garden. The childminder makes good use of opportunities in the wider community to help children develop their understanding of similarities and differences in the wider world.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children gain many important skills in readiness for their move on to school. They are sociable, confident and independent, and demonstrate high levels of concentration as they play. Children are developing their mathematical skills particularly well and count, sort, identify shapes, and use addition and subtraction during activities.
