This provision is good
The indoor and outdoor environments are stimulating and well organised. Children feel confident to explore and play. They make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder is caring and positive with the children. She is attentive to their care needs and offers them affection when they need it. Children are very happy and secure in her care. The childminder helps children to learn social skills and grow in confidence. They are well prepared for their move on to nursery or school. For example, the childminder regularly takes children out into the community to socialise with others. The childminder evaluates her service to improve her practice and the experiences that she offers children. Parents contribute their views and suggestions, which she uses to inform her self-evaluation process. The childminder has a secure understanding of how children learn and plans well according to their individual needs and interests.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always provide challenge to help children to extend their thinking and learning skills during activities. Children are well behaved. However, at times, the childminder does not provide consistent messages to children about what is expected of them.

Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector engaged with the children during the inspection. The inspector undertook a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector observed the children during their indoor play activities, as well as their snack routine. The inspector sampled various documents, including children's learning records, the childminder's self-evaluation form, risk assessments and a selection of policies and procedures.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has very strong relationships with parents and shares information with them regularly. She keeps them involved and up to date with their children's learning and development, such as through daily discussions and parents' meetings. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of how to keep children safe and the procedure to follow should she have any concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder monitors children's progress effectively, to identify what they need to do next and highlight any areas where they might need additional support. She makes improvements to her practice. For example, she has made the learning environment more child-friendly and increased the range of toys and resources for children to explore.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children actively explore and engage in a range of activities. The childminder follows the children's lead in play and observes them. She uses her knowledge of their interests to plan activities and encourage their development. The childminder supports children's early writing skills well. For example, children enjoy mark making with water, using a variety of tools such as brushes, sponges and stampers. They experiment with different movements and give meanings to the marks that they make. The childminder provides children with a variety of activities and resources reflecting the diversity of their backgrounds and experiences. Children develop an understanding of different cultural celebrations and confidently talk about the languages they speak.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The environment is welcoming, interesting and safe. The childminder completes regular risk assessments and makes sure that the home is safe and secure. Children develop an awareness of how to keep themselves safe. For example, they discuss how to use outdoor equipment safely. The childminder helps children to learn about healthy lifestyles and supports their physical well-being. She encourages children to participate in active outdoor play and provides them with healthy and nutritious snacks. Children moving to other settings are supported well. The childminder prepares them for the move and shares information with the new setting to ensure it is as smooth as possible.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in all areas of learning and are working comfortably within the range of development typical for their age. They acquire positive attitudes to learning and are confident and motivated learners. Children develop their hand and finger movements as they explore and make shapes with play dough. They are prepared well for their next stages in learning.
