p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows what action to take if she has concerns for the welfare of a child. The childminder successfully strives to develop effective partnerships with other settings children attend, to provide continuity in children's care and education. Positive comments from parents include how much they highly value the quality of care and learning the childminder provides for their children. The childminder is experienced, qualified and knowledgeable. She develops and uses her knowledge to ensure children develop the attitudes and skills to help them progress in their learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides a language-rich environment. For example, she provides activities that stimulate children's interests. As children play, she talks to them and listens attentively. She extends single words into simple sentences and pronounces words correctly, to help children develop good communication and language skills. The childminder uses lots of mathematical language in children's play. For example, she uses numbers, counting, sizes, shapes and positons in her conversations and children develop a good awareness of their meaning. The childminder encourages children to choose and enjoy different books, to help them develop good early reading skills. She monitors children's progress carefully and identifies any gaps in their learning and development. She then ensures children get the encouragement and opportunity to develop new skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children demonstrate good confidence as they play happily, select activities and engage with the childminder. The childminder is calm and attentive. She is a good role model and has high expectations for each child. Her encouragement and patience help to promote the children's self-confidence well. The childminder ensures children have opportunities to develop their social skills. For example, they enjoy meeting with other adults and children on outings and activities in the community. The childminder encourages children's physical well-being and their understanding of healthy lifestyles through everyday routines, conversations and activities. The childminder helps children to develop their personal independence.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are articulate and motivated to enjoy the resources available. For example, they develop good counting, speaking and listening skills as they play in the water with toy sea creatures and small balls. They listen and respond to questions that extend their language and thinking skills, as they link their ideas and knowledge. They develop a joy for learning. Overall, they are well prepared for the next stages in their education.
