Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder's interaction with children and spoke to the childminder throughout the inspection. The inspector carried out an observation of a planned activity and discussed the outcome with the childminder. The inspector looked at the childminder's planning documentation, children's learning and development files and children's assessment records. The inspector looked at the childminder's self-evaluation form and took account of the views of parents through their written feedback. She also looked at a selection of risk assessments and policy documents, including the safeguarding policy and procedures. The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's qualifications and training certificates, including evidence of the childminder's suitability and the suitability of all people living on the premises.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is outstanding
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has an excellent understanding of how to safeguard children and how to identify the possible signs of abuse or neglect. Robust policies and procedures underpin her understanding of safeguarding practice, which helps to ensure children are kept safe from harm. She thoroughly considers every aspect of children's welfare and promotes this consistently. Monitoring of children's progress is central to the childminder's practice and consequently she effectively identifies where children require further support. Robust self-evaluation procedures are embedded in practice and improvement plans are well targeted. For example, she is driven to devise and attend further training to improve her already excellent practice.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding
The childminder provides an enriching and exceptionally well-organised learning environment that supports children's explorative and imaginative skills. Resources are easily accessible, which encourages children to make independent choices about their play. Her playful interactions during children's activities are excellent and contribute to them being highly motivated and fully engaged in their play. For example, children delight as the childminder encourages them to explore paint with a wide selection of tools and their hands and feet. The childminder promotes children's understanding of number as she incorporates counting and mathematical language into everyday activities. She provides excellent commentary during children's play, models language and gives children ample time to think and express themselves. The childminder involves children in stories, which children also introduce to their imaginative play. Children listen attentively and show a

p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder gives the highest priority to children's health and well-being. She shows great warmth and kindness. The childminder fully recognises each child's emotional needs and supports them to feel safe when they feel anxious. Children happily approach her for cuddles and reassurance throughout the day. The childminder enables children to learn about healthy eating exceptionally well. For example, they visit the childminder's allotment and grow their own vegetables. Children also enjoy a wide variety of outdoor learning experiences, which helps to promote their physical well-being very effectively. Care practices are tailored thoughtfully to meet the needs of each child.
p.3
