This provision is good
The childminder has established good relationships with other early years settings and schools that children attend. She shares information about children's stages of development and borrows resources to support their experiences. This collaborative approach means that children have continuity in their learning. The childminder creates an environment that motivates children and makes them eager to learn. Children's overall development is particularly well promoted through outdoor play where they benefit from a large garden with a variety of challenging experiences. The childminder has a very good knowledge of children's individual needs and interests. She uses this knowledge to provide interesting activities and outings which enhance children's skills. The childminder provides a welcoming and friendly environment. Children form close emotional attachments with the childminder and good relationships with their friends.
p.1
This provision is good
The childminder uses a range of techniques to manage children's behaviour. She asks older children to write their own house rules and encourages children to share and to help tidy away resources. This promotes children's understanding of caring for others and their environment.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not focused her professional development enough on raising the quality of teaching to a higher level to help children make more than good progress. Sometimes the childminder does not provide older children with opportunities, during self-care routines, to fully support their developing independence.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's training certificates. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of the childminder and adult members of the household. The inspector took account of views and comments left by parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the signs of abuse. She has clear procedures in place to report any concerns she may have. The close partnership working with parents and other settings that children attend ensures that children have their individual needs precisely met. Parents' contributions are valued and significantly contribute to the planning of activities and accurate assessments of children's progress. The childminder is enthusiastic and passionate about ensuring that ongoing improvements have a positive impact on the children. She seeks information from parents and children to help her to review her standards of care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The qualified childminder provides children with an extremely organised and exciting environment, indoors and outdoors. Observations and assessments are used effectively to identify children's starting points and ongoing progress. This gives children a solid foundation on which to continue to develop and grow. Children who speak English as an additional language make very good progress in their communication and language skills. The childminder finds out key words and phrases in their home language and uses these during children's play. Children develop a strong sense of belonging in her home. She helps children to have an understanding of the wider world. Children learn about their own and others' cultures. The childminder takes children to different local attractions, such as the zoo and fire department. Children learn about people who help them and say that the childminder takes them to 'amazing places'.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides children with a wide range of foods to support a healthy lifestyle. They help the childminder to grow vegetables and harvest their own produce, which encourages them to take a strong interest in where food comes from. Children explore the childminder's extensive garden. They show visitors the 'fairy garden' which helps develop children's imagination. Children ride on bikes and negotiate the pathway around the garden. This helps to develop their physical skills and ability to move safely in the space around them. The childminder helps children learn to socialise with others and takes them to toddler groups. These experiences also help to boost children's confidence.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points. They are interested to find out information from books and talk about the pictures they see and name animals in the book. Children confidently explore their knowledge of mini-beasts by using magnifying glasses and containers to look more closely at them. Children demonstrate their problem- solving skills as they put puzzles together. They recognise numbers and understand positional language. Children learn skills in readiness for starting school.
